Women's Soccer Notches First Shutout Of The Season At Medgar Evers On Wednesday Afternoon

Brooklyn, NY - Thirteen different John Jay women's soccer student-athletes recorded a goal on Wednesday afternoon as the John Jay Bloodhounds defeated the Medgar Evers College Cougars, 16-0, at Kingsborough Community College.

With the win, the Bloodhounds move to 4-5 overall and even their CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) record to 1-1. The Cougars fall to 0-2 and 0-1 in league contests.

Nora O'Connor registered her second hat-trick of the season, upping her season goal total to 12. Newcomer Sofia Astarbi netted the first two goals of her Bloodhound career while fellow classmates Jasmin Arias, Luiza Harutyunyan, Anixa Puildo, and Keira Kepets each scored their first collegiate goals. Zoe Specht and Kepets tallied a team-leading two assists apiece in the triumph.

O'Connor set the tone early for the Bloodhounds, recording two goals within a two-minute span before assisting on Specht's third goal of the season in the 7'. Arias setup Brooke Fontaine who converted on a chance in the 10' to push the lead to 4-0 on Fontaine's second goal of the year.  O'Connor completed her second hat-trick of the season in 14' as she got the feed from Specht and blasted a shot that made it a five-goal advantage.

In the 18', a foul was assessed to Medgar Evers and Sierra Dazhan stepped up to take the penalty shot. The Dublin, CA native converted on the penalty for her second career goal and first of the season as John Jay led by six. Tri-captain Ellarose Bianca got on the ledger with her first of the season as the visitors added to their lead.

Harutyunyan notched her first collegiate point in the 31' minute with an unassisted tally before Astarbi got her first goal of the season after Catarina Johnson spotted her for the shot attempt. Five minutes before halftime, Morgan DeGlopper found the back of the net on Johnson's second helper of the day. With time winding down, Astarbi got her second goal of the contest as Kepets sent a thru-ball that found the foot of Astarbi as she beat Medgar's Torey Richards.

John Jay carried that momentum in to the second half, as this time Kepets was rewarded with her first collegiate goal off the feed from Lucia GiangasperoAlexandria Nembhard got on the ledger with her first of the season in the 52' minute before Puildo rocketed a shot that Richards made the initial save, but alertly, Puildo tracked the loose ball and buried the chance. Arias netted her first in the 60' before Melissa Orr followed suit to cap the scoring for the Bloodhounds.

John Jay returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 14, as they will square off against York College at Aviator Field #2 in Brooklyn at 4:45 p.m.
