New York, NY - The John Jay men's soccer team closed out the regular season on Wednesday night with a memorable battle against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs.
Under the lights on Randall's Island, the Bloodhounds looked to be fighting towards a 1-0 win on Senior Night but a late Bulldog header caught the hosts in the final minutes. John Jay was able to hold for the 1-1 draw and close the regular season with a 6-6-2 record (4-1-2 CUNYAC) with the conference tournament on the horizon.
The Bloodhounds spent the major of the first half on the offensive, leading the way with eight shots and four of them on goal. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes and Bloodhounds keeper
Tyler Solis did not face a shot on goal.
In the 60th minute, John Jay broke the scoreless draw. The program's new career assists leader,
Kevin Luciano, played an expert ball through the legs of a pair of Bulldog defenders and to the feet of
Mario Parano who successfully beat the keeper one-on-one for his first goal of the season.
The Bulldogs ramped up their attack in response and found twine just seven minutes later. Brooklyn's George Koufous floated a ball to the head of Bradlej Cupi, who whipped the ball into the top right corner for the equalizer.
Both sides scrambled for a late winner with
Daniel Rosa,
Brayan Alvarez and
Junior Guaman putting shots on frame. As Solis corralled a final gasp from Brooklyn's Adan Khordorkovsky, the final whistle blew for a 1-1 draw.
NEXT UP: The Bloodhounds await the final CUNYAC standings ahead of the opening round of the conference tournament next Wednesday, Oct. 25.
