Women's Soccer Adavnaces To Fifth Straight CUNYAC Championship Game; Defeats No. 3 Lehman, 5-1, On Semifinal Saturday

New York, NY - The reigning and defending three-time CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) women's soccer champions, the John Jay women's soccer team, advanced to their fifth straight league title game after defeating the No. 3 seed, Lehman, 5-1, on Randall's Island - Field 75 on Saturday afternoon. 
 
With the victory, the Bloodhounds, who moves to 8-5-0 overall on the year, will look to capture their fourth straight league championship on November 4, as they will face the regular-season champions, the No. 1 seed, CCNY in a rematch of two of the last three league finals (2019 & 2022). 
 
The Lightning conclude the 2023 regular season at 5-8-1 and 3-2-0 in league contests. 
 
The Bloodhounds out on the attack early in the match, as Emma Fisher tested Lehman's goalkeeper, Diallo Ramatoulaye, with a shot on goal, but Lehman's netminder made the stop. 
 
On the Lightning's first chance of the match, Melanie Siranaula, fired a chance on goal, but Lily Velo was awaiting for the save, keeping the match scoreless. 
 
In the 14' minute, the defending league champions struck first. Fisher booted a laser that was initially halted by Ramatoulaye but ricocheted past the goal line, giving the Bloodhounds a 1-0 advantage on Fisher's sixth goal of the season. 
 
 
John Jay continued their offensive prowess as in the 22' Mikayla Schoch received the high-arching feed from Nora O'Connor as Shoch lofted the ball past the outstretched leap attempt from Ramatoulaye, pushing the Bloodhounds lead to 2-0. 
 
 
For Schoch, it marked her sixth goal of the season and for O'Connor it marked her team-leading sixth helper of the year. 
 
With two minutes remaining before the intermission, O'Connor got around the Lehman defenders and fired a strike from nearly midfield that found its way to the back left of the goal, extending the Bloodhounds' lead to 3-0. For the Alexandria, VA native, it marked her 20th goal of the season. 
 
 
When play resumed, the Lightning chipped away at the deficit, as Barbara Meda located the ball and pushed one past Velo, as Lehman trailed 3-1. 
 
The Lightning tried to stage a comeback, as in the 74' Meda sent a shot that went wide of the target before Siranaula also booted one left of the goal two minutes later. 
 
The Bloodhounds extended their lead in the 82' as Luiza Harutyunyan got the feed from Fisher on the right and buried the scoring chance, as John Jay held a 4-1 edge on Harutyunyan's second goal of the season and Fisher's second assist of the year. 
 
 
Four minutes later, tri-captain Brooke Fontaine, checked and within the first 17 seconds of her final shift, got the steal and blasted a shot that found the back of the net for her third of the season and gave John Jay a 5-1 edge. 
 
 
The No. 2 seed Bloodhounds will now face off against the No. 1 seed Beavers on November 4 at Queens College for the right to advance to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.
