Men's Soccer Blanks York, 3-0, For Second Straight Win

Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay men's soccer team scored twice in the opening half and added a third marker in blanking the York College Cardinals, 3-0, in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the Bloodhounds move to 4-6-1 overall and 2-1-1 in league play while the Cardinals falter to 0-8-1 and 0-4-0 in conference play.

The heavy downpour of rain wasn't a deterrent for the Bloodhounds offense, as the visitors created a variety of chances in the early portion of the match.

In the 7', Justin Gharbin sent a low centering shot but York's George Molina was there to make the save. Five minutes later, John Jay had two opportunities as tri-captain Kevin Luciano directed a ball but that curled left while Nicolas DiBetta's shot sailed high.

The Bloodhounds continued to apply pressure and was rewarded in the 30'. Brayan Alvarez fired a shot on goal that Molina deflected away from the goal, but, Junior Guaman alertly located the loose ball and buried the chance, as John Jay went ahead, 1-0.

For Guaman. it is his second goal of the season and third of his career while Alvarez earned his third helper of the year and fifth of his Bloodhound tenure.

With five minutes until the intermission, the Bloodhounds were awarded a penalty kick on a foul by the Cardinals. Mario Parano stepped up for the visitors and converted on his first PK chance, increasing the John Jay lead to 2-0 on his second goal of the season.

In the 70', John Jay netted their third score of the match as Gharbin pushed one past Molina off the feed from Charlie Metz as the Bloodhounds took a 3-0 lead.

For Gharbin, it was his fourth goal of the season and the 13th for his career while Metz registered his first collegiate points with the assist.

The Bloodhounds tallied 23 shots with 11 of those finding their way on target. The visitors also had six corners. Tyler Solis registered his fifth career shutout. His counterpart, Molina, made eight saves on the afternoon.
