CHAMPIONSHIP BOUND: Women’s Volleyball Reaches CUNYAC Finals After Five-Set Win Over No. 2 Baruch

New York, NY - For the first time since 2018, the John Jay women's volleyball team is heading to the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) championship game as the No. 3 seed Bloodhounds outlasted the No. 2 Baruch College Bearcats, 3-2 (25-15; 19-25; 25-21;21-25; 15-9).

For John Jay (19-8), tonight's victory over Baruch (11-16) marks the first road win triumph over the Bearcats since 1996 (October 14 | Won, 3-0) and their fourth win over Baruch since 2017.

The Bloodhounds successfully avenged a five-set heartbreaker to Baruch just 17 days ago that closed out the regular season.

The Bloodhounds will take on the top-seed, Hunter College, on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Hunter for the league title. For John Jay, it will be their third-ever trip to the title game after appearing in back-to-back years in 2017 and 2018. For the Hawks, they are the defending champions and will be vying for their league-leading 27th crown.

Newly-minted CUNYAC Player of the Year, Josanne Lewis and fellow CUNYAC First Teamer Faith Harer each posted a double-double in the semifinals triumph, with Lewis racking up 13 kills and a team-high 19 digs while Harer paced the Bloodhounds with a team-leading 18 kills and added 18 digs. Kristin Gretener reached double-digits in digs with 13.

CUNYAC Second Team selection Meghan Smith enjoyed a memorable evening, as the Farmingville, NY native posted her fourth 40+ assist game as she finished with 43 on the night while serving up three aces. With that, she reached a career milestone as she has now gone over the 2,000 career assist plateau, standing at 2,013.

Paige Sadowitz, Reilly Catan and CUNYAC Rookie of the Year Hailey Waugaman combined for seven blocks with Sadowitz leading the way with three.

Baruch's Sarah Chung finished with a double-double, collecting 19 kills and 12 digs. Julia Perkowski added 10 kills. Both Xheni Doci and Caroli Elfner had 17 digs each. Doci notched 30 assists on the night.

Fourth Set - The visitors came out of the gates with a 3-0 lead to start the fourth set. A 6-2 charge extended the Bloodhounds' lead to 10-6 following a kill from Catan that forced the Bearcats to call for time.
