Women's Basketball Picks Up Fourth Straight Win On Homecoming On Tuesday Evening

New York, NY - In front of an energetic crowd at The Doghouse, the John Jay women's basketball team notched their fourth straight win and fifth overall as the Bloodhounds defeated the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins, 63-47, on Homecoming on Tuesday evening.
 
John Jay (5-1) had three players score in double-figures, led by Ashley Zeolla, who tallied a game and new career-high 22 points on an 8 of 14 shooting display from the field. The Yorktown Heights, NY native went 6 of 8 from the free throw line while picking up four rebounds and two steals in her 25 minutes of action. 
 
Kamryn Hammond dropped in 13 points, 12 of which came from three-point range while pulling down eight rebounds and dishing out a team-best four assists in 34 minutes. Newly-minted CUNYAC Player of the Week, Chayanne Kelly, notched 11 points while swiping a team-high three steals. 
 

 
Mount Saint Vincent was led by Kayla Hanley, who finished with a team-best 11 points on 2 of 4 shooting from long range while hitting 5 of 6 from the line.

"I am very proud of how we stuck to the game plan tonight. We did a great job on the boards and got key contributions from our bench. Tiffany (Bogle) spearheading our rebounding efforts (finishing with nine total caroms) while I was impressed by Michaela Lattimore, making her season debut."
 
The Dolphins jumped out to an early 7-4 lead off a Kira Villegas layup. The Bloodhounds closed out the first quarter scoring ten of the final 17 points but the game was knotted at 14 after a Magan Jackson layup with 32 seconds. 
 
Both teams exchanged points over the majority of the second quarter when Zeolla powered her way to the hoop for two at the 1:37. The two teams traded off a free throw as they both headed into the halftime break tied at 26. 
 
Over the next 3:50, the Bloodhounds sparked a 12-4 run, capped by two made freebies by Kelly at the 5:57. John Jay closed out the frame on a 10-6 spurt in taking a 48-38 lead. 
 
John Jay commenced the fourth quarter on a 12-4 run, highighted by Michaela Lattimore's three-point play, extending their advantage to 60-42. 
 
The Dolphins finished the game scoring five of the final eight points but John Jay sealed their fourth straight win. 
 
John Jay shot close to 40.0 percent from the field (22 of 58) while limiting the Dolphins to just 28.6 percent shooting (16 of 56). The Bloodhounds stifling defense limited CMSV to just 3 of 20 from the outside (15.0 percent) while hitting on 36.4 percent from the outside. The Bloodhounds outmuscled Mount Saint Vincent, 49-31, which included a 22-14 margin on the offensive glass. 
 
Following a brief break for the Thanksgiving holiday, the Bloodhounds will begin a two-game road stint, commencing on Sunday at Arcadia at 1:00 p.m.
