Women's Hoops Four-Game Win Streak Halted At Arcadia On Sunday Afternoon

Glenside, PA - The John Jay women's basketball team saw their season-high four-game win streak halted on Sunday afternoon, falling on the road at Arcadia, 76-55. 
 
With the setback, the Bloodhounds fall to 5-2 on the season while the Knights remain undefeated on the year, moving to 4-0. 
 
John Jay had two players score in double-figures, led by Chayanne Kelly, who scored a team-leading 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting from the floor which included 3 of 5 from three-point range. The Harlem, NY native dished out a season-high six assists in her 28 minutes of play. 
 
Kelly has now scored in double-digits in all six contests to start the 2023-24 campaign.
 
Tiffany Bogle was the second Bloodhound to reach double-figures, as she poured in 12 points on a 5 of 12 shooting display in 22 minutes of action.
 
Hannah Ruberto corralled a season-high 11 rebounds in 22 minutes, seven of which were off the offensive end. 
 
Four Arcadia players scored in double-digits, led by Hanna Rhoades, who tallied a game-high 23 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the floor while connecting on 6 of 9 from three-point distance. 
 
Delaney Bell notched a double-double, finishing with 19 points on 7 of 16 while grabbing 11 rebounds, nine on the defensive glass.  
 
Abby Beam went 8 of 8 from the free-throw line to contribute 13 points in her 34 minutes while Scarlett Glasser-Nehls added 11 points, six rebounds and a team-pacing five assists. 
 
Arcadia raced out to a 10-2 lead over the first 2:30 of the first quarter before Ashley Zeolla stopped the run with a layup of her own. 
 
This helped the Bloodhounds get back into the contest, as Ayanna Edwards had back-to-back buckets for the visitors, trimming the deficit down to five, 13-8. 
 
The Knights answered back by outscoring the Bloodhounds, 13-5, over a near five-minute span that increased the Arcadia lead to 23-11 on a Bell layup. 
 
With 43 seconds left in the quarter, Natalie Simonds converted on a jumper that paused the Arcadia run as the Knights held a ten-point advantage, 23-13. 
 
John Jay mounted a comeback in the second quarter, outscoring Arcadia 11-7 over a majority of the quarter, as Kamryn Hammond's layup with 14 seconds brought the Bloodhounds to within six, 30-24. The Knights closed out the frame with three straight free throws by Beam to enter the break with a 33-24 lead. 
 
John Jay commenced the third quarter with an 8-0 run, capped by a five straight points from Hammond, as the Bloodhounds trailed by one, 33-32. 
 
Arcadia staged a 10-0 outburst over the next 2:12 in building a 43-32 lead, as Bell drilled a jumper from Glasser-Nehls with 4:18 showing on the clock. 
 
Both teams struggled down the stretch, hitting on a combined 4 of 10 from the floor with Arcadia going ahead 49-36 after Katie Rodriguez hit a pair from the line. 
 
Arcadia started the fourth quarter on a 11-0 run that increased the lead to 60-36 following a Bell triple before Kelly halted the run with a layup for her 12th point of the afternoon. 
 
The Bloodhounds outscored the Knights, 17-16, over the final 6:32 with Kelly and Bogle combining for 13 of the 17 points. 
 
For the game, John Jay shot 34.8 percent from the field while Arcadia connected on 43.1 percent. The Bloodhounds converted on 4 of 12 from the outside while the Knights hit on 10 of 25 from deep. 
 
John Jay will open up CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play on the road as the Bloodhounds will take on the Brooklyn College Bulldogs on December 1 at 5:00 p.m. in a rematch of the last two CUNYAC title games.
