New York, NY – The John Jay rifle team hosted their annual Big Apple Classic with SUNY Maritime for a home air gun match on Saturday. The Bloodhounds defeated the Privateers, 2169-1819.
During the competition, the Bloodhounds recognized their two seniors for Senior Day –
Iverson Chen and
Shaad Choudhury.
Danny Canning led the way for John Jay, posting a 572.
Natalia Alegarbes was next with a 545.
Bryan Gomez (532) and newcomer
Kaitlyn Ayers (520) rounded out the top-four shooters for the Bloodhounds.
Maritime was led by Nick Cavaliere, who fired off a 526. John Bliss was next at 500 followed by Joe Vohnout (398) and Zhipeng Dai (389).
For John Jay, four Bloodhounds competed in their first-ever competition.
Ashley Flores scored a 516 followed by fellow newcomer
Jian Bin Zhao, who finished with a 509.
Chen registered a 502 while newcomer Sixmiery Jimenez Ortiz fired off a 492. Choudhury posted a 491 while
Maria Belov, competing in her first match, shot a 381.
Rounding the performances for Privateers were Nico Bennett (369), Jonathan Saisa (355) and Clifford Fischer (279).
The Bloodhounds will be back in the range on January 27, as they will take on Maritime and the University of Rhode Island at the Cos Cob in both air rifle and small bore.
