Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay baseball team opened their home slate of non-conference games at Maimonides Park, the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets, on Friday against The College at Old Westbury.

The Bloodhounds dropped the opener of the doubleheader, 2-0, and the nightcap, 12-2.

Game 1 - Old Westbury 2, John Jay 0

John Jay's starter Sean Jost and Old Westbury's Joseph Bekios started the contest by firing off identical scoreless frames over the first three innings of game one.

The Panthers cracked through with the first run of the contest in the top of the fourth. Jost got the first two batters out before a dropped foul ball extended John Dell'Olio's at-bat.

Dell'Olio was hit by a pitch and moved to third after a pair of stolen bases. Oscar Fajardo sent a single to left center that plated Dell'Olio, giving Old Westbury a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers worked to extend the frame as Nick Papageorge was hit by an errant pitch. Jost settled down and got Jaime Barrios to ground out, ending the threat.

The Bloodhounds rallied in the bottom of the fifth. Tyler DeStefano drew a walk to lead off the frame before being lifted for pinch runner in Michael Emanuele

With two outs, Ryan Kilcarr walked and both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch. John Spallin worked the third walk of the stanza but all three were left on following fielder's choice ground out to shortstop.

Old Westbury added a run in the top of the sixth. Jost struck out Jacob Taormina before hitting Dell'Olio, who promptly stole second.

Farjardo notched his second RBI of the game, sending a single through the left side as Dell'Olio scored. Michael Luongo came on and got Barrios to ground out to end the inning.

Old Westbury went to the bullpen in the bottom of the seventh as Kyle Gaertner struck out the first two Bloodhounds he saw before getting Kilcarr to fly out to center, ending the contest.

Spallin led the way for John Jay with two hits while Agosta added one hit. Jost lasted 5.2 innings allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out three.
