Baseball Posts First Home Win Of 2023 Season Over Yeshiva On Wednesday Evening

Brooklyn, NY - For the time in program history, the John Jay baseball team scored 20 or more runs in a game, but for the first time in program history, the Bloodhounds reach the 30 run plateau, defeating the Yeshiva Maccabees 34-0 on Wednesday night from Maimonides Pak. 
 
With the win, the Bloodhounds move to 2-11 overall on the season while Yeshiva falls to 0-9.

Seven Bloodhounds produced a multi-hit performance in Wednesday's non-conference tilt, led by Michael Mauro and Michael Manzoeillo, who each recorded four hits. Six John Jay players had multi-RBI games, led by John Spallin, who batted in a career-high six RBIs. Thomas Salerno scored six times while Manzoeillo crossed the plate five times.

Anthony Agosta, Ismael Tatis and Michael Emanuel each scored four times while Joseph Salerno joined Spallin with three runs scored. Marc Weeks earned his first win of the season after throwing seven scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, a one-out double in the first inning, while recording a season-high eight strikeouts. 
 
Tyler DeStefano and Michael Lonergan worked a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, preserving the shutout for the Bloodhounds. 
 
John Jay opened the contest with three runs in the opening inning. Manzoeillo ripped an RBI single that plated home Agosta, who reached on a double to left field. The Bloodhounds added two more after Ethan Simaan reached on a fielding error by the second baseman. 
 
Both teams put up zeroes over the second and third inning before the Bloodhounds added to their total, scoring five times in the bottom of the fourth, as John Jay sent nine batters to the plate, with Simaan delivering a two-run single to left, plating David Michalski and Manzoeillo, making it 8-0 in favor of the home team. 
 
Mauro sent a hard-hit single to left that scored Thomas Salerno, who led off the bottom of the fifth with a walk. John Jay extended the lead in their half of the sixth, scoring 11 times on four hits in building a 20-0 advantage. 
 
John Jay's offense was on full display, erupting for six runs in the bottom of the seventh and tacking on eight more in the bottom of the eighth as the Bloodhounds secured their first home win of the 2023 campaign. 
 
The Bloodhounds are set to embark on a five-game road trip, beginning on Friday, March 17, as they will travel to Hackettstown, NJ to square off against Centenary University (NJ). 
 
First-pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
