Baseball Drops Road Non-Conference Tilt At Centenary On Friday Afternoon

Hackettstown, NJ - The John Jay baseball team kicked off their five-game road trip at Centenary University (NJ) on Friday afternoon, falling to the Cyclones, 17-1. 
 
John Spallin and Saul Zoquier each had a hit in the contest with Zoquier driving in the lone run for the visitors. 
 
Five Cyclone starters had two hits on the day with Nicholas Gattuso and Jake Corropolese each driving in three RBIs. Kris Mankin added two RBIs while seven other Centenary hitters recorded an RBI. 
 
Michael Emanuele was saddled with the loss after giving up six runs (five earned). Centenary's Zach Gehman earned the win after giving up just one run on one hit while walking three and striking out ten over six innings of action. 
 
Both teams were held scoreless after the first inning before the home team erupted for six runs on six hits in the bottom of the second. 
 
Centenary continued to add to its lead with a run in their half of the third and fourth, increasing their lead to 8-0. 
 
The Bloodhounds got on the board in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Zoquier sent a hard-hit single to left field, scoring Ismael Tatis from second. 
 
The Cyclones got two runs back in their half of the frame as Gattuso clubbed a two-run home run, pushing the lead to 10-1. 
 
Following a scoreless sixth inning, Centenary added four more scores in the bottom of the seventh before capping the scoring in the eighth inning, tacking on three more runs, two of which coming on a double by Corropolese.
 
John Jay wraps up the weekend on Sunday, as they will travel to Phoenixville, PA for a doubleheader against the University of Valley Forge. 
 
First-pitch is slated for noon.
