Baseball Drops Road Doubleheader At Valley Forge On Sunday Afternoon

Phoenixville, PA - The John Jay baseball team dropped their non-conference doubleheader tilt at Valley Forge on Sunday, falling 7-3 and 12-5. 

Game 1 - John Jay 3, Valley Forge 7
The Bloodhounds dropped the first game of Sunday's twinbill by a 7-3 count. 

Michael Manzoeillo paced the Bloodhounds with two hits while Ethan Simaan, Ryan Kilcarr, and Ismael Tatis each drove in an RBI for the visitors. 

Sean Jost was saddled with the lost, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits over two innings of work while walking three and striking out three. Christian Sanacora came on in relief, tossing four innings of two hit baseball, allowing just one run on two hits while walking four and striking out three batters. 

Camden Smith led the Patriots with two hits and scored two of the seven runs. Bubs Reeves drove in four RBIs while drawing three walks. 

Kasey Baumgart tossed five innings of five hit baseball to earn the win. He allowed three unearned runs while striking out three and walking one. Levi Gehman finished the game, firing off two scoreless frames. 

Valley Forge struck for three runs in their half of the first as Reeves cleared the bases with a three-run double to left center field. 

John Jay got one back in the top of the second as Kilcarr lofted a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Simaan, who reached on a fielder's choice. 

The Patriots added three more in the bottom of the second to go up 6-1. Colin Orndorff sent a sacrifice fly to left that brought in Zack Haines to make it 4-1. 

Two batters later, Smith singled to left field that scored Michael Caballero before Reeves drew a bases loaded walk to make it 6-1. 

The Bloodhounds scored twice in the top of the fourth, cutting the deficit in half, 6-3, as Simaan reached first on a fielding by the Valley Forge left fielder before coming into score on RBI base hit by Tatis. 

Smith pushed the Patriots lead back up to four runs on a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. 

The Bloodhounds had a chance in their half of the seventh as David Michalski drew a one out walk and moved into scoring position on a passed ball. 

Game one concluded as Simaan lined a frozen rop to second as Michalski was doubled up concluding the contest. 

Game 2 - John Jay 5, Valley Forge 12
John Jay scored first but the Patriors erupted for a total of four runs over the first two innings before staging a five-run bottom of the fifth to defeat the Bloodhounds, 12-5, in the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader. 

John Spallin, Simaan and Saul Zoquier each had two hits in the contest with Simaan and Anthony Agosta driving in two RBIs. Michalski was credited with the fifth Bloodhound RBI. 

Michael Luongo took the ball for John Jay, lasting 3.1 innings in giving up six runs over five hits while walking three and striking out three batters. 

Three Patriots had multi-hit games, led by Reeves, who went 3 for 4 at the plate while driving in a team-best six RBIs and scoring three runs. 

Orndorff and Allan Goodwin each had two hits with Goodwin and Joshua Nieberlein driving in two RBIs. 

Stephen Brice went four innings in picking up the win. Kaden Gonzales earned the save after throwing the final three innings in which he gave up two hits, a walk and striking out six batters. 

The Bloodhounds struck first as Agosta singled through the left side that brought in Thomas Salerno, who reached on a one-out walk. 

Valley Forge took the lead in the bottom of the inning as Goodwin doubled to right field, scoring two. 

In the bottom of the second, the Patriots tacked on two more runs in building a 4-1 advantage after Reeves doubled to left and came around to score on a RBI single by Orndorff. 

John Jay continued to fight back in the contest, as Simaan delivered a two-run double to left in the top of the third that cut the deficit to one, 4-3. 

The Bloodhound went back in front, 5-4, in the top of the fourth as Agosta was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Michael Emanuele

Michalski reached first on an error by the first baseman, as Spallin crossed the plate, giving the Bloodhounds the lead. 

The home team responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 6-5 lead. Reeves continued his hot hitting for the Patriots, doubling to left field that scored the tying run and he came into score on a wild pitch from Tyler DeStefano

Valley Forge opened the game up in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five times, as Nieberlei drew a bases loaded walk that scored Goodwin, making it 7-5 before Reeves cleared the bases with a grand slam. 

In the bottom of the sixth, Nieberlei laced a RBI double that brought in Hoover, making it a seven-run advantage. 

The Bloodhounds continue their road trip on Tuesday, March 21, as they will head up to Purchase, NY to square off against Manhattanville. 


First-pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
