Softball Sweeps Doubleheader At Yeshiva On Friday Morning

New Rochelle, NY - The John Jay softball team cruised to a pair of victories on Friday morning, defeating Yeshiva, 21-4 in game one while blanking the Maccabees 13-0 in the second game. 
 
Game 1 - John Jay 21, Yeshiva 4
The Bloodhounds got off to a fast start in the opening game, sending 14 batters to the plate while scoring nine runs on 11 hits. Jailene Santiago connected on an inside-the-park home run down the left field line that made it 3-0 in favor of the visitors. 
 
With two outs, John Jay strung together three straight hits, with Mackenzie Tresch sending a single through the right side, scoring Sidney Bankston that made it 4-0. The next batter, Elika Rodrigues, doubled to center, scoring Kelly Fajardo
 
Jordyn Prince stepped up for her second at-bat in the inning, lacing a double to center field that plated home two runs to make it 7-0. Maleea Gallaspy added an RBI double that scored Prince before Angelina Schoelles capped the nine-run frame with an RBI single to center. 
 
The Bloodhounds put together another big inning, tacking on seven more runs in building a 16-0 advantage. Tresch clubbed her first home run of season, an inside-the-park shot to right field. Santiago continued her torrid approach at the dish, doubling to right center, which brought in two more following a run scored via an error by the shortstop. 
 
Rylea Sandel ripped an RBI single to center that plated home Schoelles before Fajardo reached first on a drop fly ball by the shortstop, as Santiago scored. 
 
In the top of the third, Santiago continued to find her rhythm at the plate, sending an RBI single back up the middle that scored Logan Stansfield. Two batters later, Bankston reached on a throwing error by the second baseman, that plated home two more scores, making it 19-0. 
 
Tresch sent an RBI single to right center that advanced the runners while plating home Sandel before Emily Sperl, who pinch-hit, added an RBI single to left that scored Bankston. 
 
Yeshiva scored in the bottom of the third as Esther Miller scored on a wild pitch. The Maccabees added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, as Miller sent an RBI grounder to second before Emily Zrihen came into score on wild pitch. 
 
The final run of the contest came in the bottom of the fifth as Kyra Appeal walked and advanced to second while Tiferet Weissman scored on the wild pitch. 
 
Ten Bloodhounds finished with multi-hit games, led by Santiago, who went a perfect 5 of 5 from the plate, in which she scored three times and drove in five RBIs. Schoelles added four hits in five at bats while scoring twice. 
 
Prince, Sandel, and Tresch each added three hits, with Tresch recording four RBIs in the victory. Stansfield, Gallaspy, Fajardo, Bernadette Kish and Rodrigues each added two hits with Gallaspy coming through with three RBIs. 
 
Jogelys Sanchez earned her first win of the season, recording four strikeouts and not allowing a hit over the five-innings. 
 
Game 2 - John Jay 13, Yeshiva 0
John Jay opened game two, scoring eight runs on eight hits, with Sandel coming up with two RBIs in on her double to left field, which made it a 4-0 run lead. Kish reached on fielding error that scored Sandel before Sandel added a single through the right side that made it 6-0. 
 
A bases loaded walk to Prince and followed by an RBI single by Gallaspy down the left field line pushed the Bloodhounds lead to 8-0. 
 
The Bloodhounds added a run in the top of the second as Bankston singled to left field that scored Schoelles. The visitors added two more runs in the top of the third, increasing the lead to 11-0 as Schoelles and Santiago each connected on RBI base hits. 
 
Gallaspy continued her hot hitting in the top of the fourth, sending a two-out single through the left side that plated home Kayla Sauers, giving John Jay a 12-run lead. 
 
The final run of the contest came in the top of the fifth as Sauers reached on an infield single to second that plated home Nevaeh Echevarria, making it 13-0. 
 
At the dish, Santiago went 4 for 4 with two RBIs. In the circle, she threw three scoreless innings in which she didn't allow a hit in the contest while earning her seventh win of the season. Santiago struck out seven batters. Tresch pitched the final two innings, giving up one hit while fanning three batters. 
 
Gallaspy and Schoelles added three hits with Gallaspy driving home three RBIs. Sandel, Bankston and Rodrigues each had two hits with Sandel plating home a pair.
 
The Bloodhounds will look to add to their three-game win streak when they take the field on Monday, March 27, as they will travel to Langhorne, PA to square off against Cairn University. 
 
This contest was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, March 25, at Queens College (NY), but, due to expected inclement weather, the two teams will move it Cairn on Monday with first-pitch set for 3:00 p.m.
