Baseball Falters In Home Doubleheader Against SUNY Maritime On Sunday

Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay baseball team dropped both games of their non-conference doubleheader to SUNY Maritime on Sunday at Maimonides Park, falling 18-2 and 13-3. 
 
With the losses, the Bloodhounds falter to 2-18 overall while the Privateers move to 12-7. 
 
Game 1 - John Jay 2, Maritime 18
 
The Bloodhounds kept the contest close after allowing three runs in the top of the second but following a scoreless third, the Privateers sparked a five-run fourth inning before tacking on a total of 10 runs over the final three innings of the contest in recording a 18-2 road triumph. 
 
Tyler DeStefano collected two hits for the Bloodhounds while John Spallin and Michael Manzoeillo had one hit in the first game. Manzoeillo and Anthony Agosta recorded the two RBIs for John Jay. 
 
Anthony Madigan led the Privateers with three hits while driving in four RBIs. Five SUNY Maritime hitters joined Madigan with multi-hit performances with Randy Ventura driving in three RBIs. 
Chris Felder and Michael Frazzetta added two RBIs a piece. 
 
Christian Sanacora was saddled with the loss after throwing three innings in which he allowed three runs on four hits while issuing five walks and striking out two. 
 
His counterpart, Matthew Demme, earned his third win of the season, firing off six innings of four hit ball, giving up two runs, one walk while striking out nine batters. 
 
Madigan got the scoring going for the visitors in the top of the second as he tripled to right center scoring a pair before coming into score on a RBI single to right center from Nick Pinggera. 
 
Both teams were held off the scoreboard in the third before the visitors erupted for five runs in the top of the fourth, to go up 8-0. Madigan collected two more RBIs to cap the rally. 
 
Maritime went on to score four more runs in the top of the fifth, as Felder sent a hard-hit double down the right field line that plated home a pair of runs, upping their lead to 10-0, before Milone and Frazzetta added a two more runs to push the lead to 12-0. 
 
Maritime added three more scores in their half of the sixth, two of which coming on a Ventura double to left field before Blake Gnepper drew a bases loaded walk that brought in another run. 
 
John Jay got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Spallin sent a hard-hit double to left center before DeStefano sent a single to right. Manzoeillo doubled to center that scored Spallin before Agosta sent a sacrifice fly to center as DeStefano tagged up from third. 
 
The Bloodhounds were able to record the first two outs in the top of the seventh before a dropped foul by the John Jay third baseman prolonged the inning. 
 
Three straight hits led to Ventura sending an RBI single to center before Bartlett singled through the right-side plating in the second run of the frame. Revere capped the three-run seventh with a single to center. 
 
Game 1 - John Jay 3, Maritime 13
Joseph Salerno led the Bloodhound offense in the second game with a two hits and drove in two RBIs. Spallin went 1 or 4 in the nightcap. 
 
Marc Weeks tossed five innings but suffered the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits. 
 
Anthony Madigan and Jaden Shea each had three hits for the visitors with Madigan continuing his torrid stretch of hitting, adding five RBIs in the contest. Ian Wilson added two RBIs. 
 
Andrew Heiderstatdt went the distance in picking up the win for the visitors, allowing three runs (two earned) on just three hits while walking two and striking out eight batters. 
 
Similar to the first game, both teams didn't score in the opening inning before SUNY Maritime sparked a four-run top of the second as Madigan capped the frame with a two-run single to right field. 
 
Following a scoreless third, the Privateers tacked on two more runs in the fourth to go up 6-0 as Milone doubled home Shea before Vafakos scored on a sacrifice fly to left. 
 
The Bloodhounds cut the deficit in half in their half of the fifth inning. With two outs, Saul Zoquier was hit by a pitch. The next batter, Thomas Salerno, walked. Both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. 
 
Joseph Salerno came through for John Jay with a double to deep left center field that plated both runners before her came around to score on a throwing error by the catch. 
 
SUNY Maritime answered by with five runs in the top of the sixth to go ahead by a 11-3 count. The Privateers added two more runs in the top of the seventh as Madigan clubbed a two-run home run that ricocheted off the video board in left field. 
 
John Jay returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 28, as the Bloodhounds will head to Newark, NJ to tangle with Rutgers-Newark for a 3:30 p.m. first-pitch at Weequahic Park.
