Softball Splits Midweek Twinbill At New Jersey City On Tuesday Afternoon

Jersey City, NJ - The John Jay softball team split their non-conference midweek tilt at New Jersey City University (NJCU), falling 8-0 in game one before earning a 5-2 triumph in the second game. 
 
With today's result, the Bloodhounds move to 9-8 overall on the season while the Gothic Knights move to 8-6. 
 
Game 1 - John Jay 0, NJCU 8
Jordyn Prince, reigning CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Player of the Week, Jailene Santiago, and Elika Rodrigues each had a hit in the opening game on Tuesday afternoon. 
 
Abby Castro and Sidnie Dabbadie each had two hits while the duo along with Mariah Villanueva drove in two RBIs each. Jaelynn Barrios added the seventh RBI for the Gothic Knights. 
 
Nevaeh Echevarria was tagged with the loss, tossing one inning while allowing five runs (four earned) over three hits while walking four batters. Dabbadie earned the complete game win for the Gothic Knights, striking out seven batters without giving up a run and allowing three hits. 
 
NJCU scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the first as Dabbadie sent an RBI single to center field that plated home Villanueva. 
 
The Gothic Knights erupted for a total of four runs in the bottom of the second. Two straight bases loaded walks pushed the lead to 3-0 before Dabbadie sent in her second RBI of the day. Barriros reached on an infield single to second that plated home Villanueva, making it 5-0. 
 
NJCU tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third, upping their advantage to 7-0, as Villanueva lofted a sacrifice fly to left that scored 
Natalie Rosales before Castro singled through the left side that brought in Emily Tunney. 
 
A fielder's choice by Yavely Marrero plated home Grace Angulo for the eighth run of the contest as NJCU earned the game one win. 
 
Game 2 - John Jay 5, NJCU 2
In the nightcap of the twinbill, the Bloodhounds started out quickly, erupting for two runs over the first two frames. 
 
Jordyn Prince led off the inning with a walk before moving to third on a consecutive wild pitches. Gallaspy sent a grounder to the pitcher and was caught in a rundown, which allowed Prince to score. 
 
In the top of the second, Mackenzie Tresch reached first on a fielding error by the second baseman which scored Sidney Bankston, making it 2-0. 
 
NJCU cut the deficit in half, 2-1, in their half of the third, with Castro sending a hard-hit single up the middle that brought in Marrero. 
 
Following a scoreless fourth, the Bloodhounds added three scores in their half of the fifth inning. Prince was hit by a pitch and once again advanced to third following a pair of wild pitches. 
 
Gallaspy recorded an RBI single to left field that made it 3-1 before Santiago continued her hot hitting, delivering a two-run single to center field that made it 5-1. 
 
The Gothic Knights inched closer in the bottom of the fifth. Tunney tripled to center field before scoring on a wild pitch. 
 
Santiago went the distance in earning her eighth win of the season after throwing 110 pitches while giving up two runs on five hits and walking four. She recorded a season-high 10 strikeouts. 
 
The Bloodhounds will head to Morristown, NJ on Friday, March 31, as they will take on Saint Elizabeth University. First-pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
