Baseball Drops Midweek Tilt At Saint Elizabeth On Tuesday Afternoon

Morristown, NJ - The John Jay baseball team fell to the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles, 15-2, on Tuesday afternoon.

John Spallin, Anthony Agosta, Ethan Simaan, and David Michalski each had a hit on the day with Spallin and Thomas Salerno driving in John Jay's RBIs on the afternoon.

Justin Otero led the way for the Eagles, going 2 for 3 with a double and home run and driving in six RBIs. Brad Edwards added a hit and three RBIs while Joe Brong scored three of the 15 runs for Saint Elizabeth on the afternoon.

The two teams were held scoreless after one before Saint Elizabeth sparked a seven-run bottom of the second in taking the early lead. Otero got the scoring going for the home team, sending a double to left field that brought in a pair.

A single and a walk led to Edwards clearing the bases with a double to left as Saint Elizabeth went up 5-0. Jacob Pipercic brought in Edwards with an RBI double before Matt Storch followed up with a double of his own that put an end to Christopher LaFrancesca's afternoon as the Eagles went up by seven.

Saint Elizabeth added a run in the third that pushed the lead to 8-0 on an RBI grounder off the bat of Otero as Brong, who walked to start the frame, came around to score.

The game remained that way until the bottom of the fifth, when the home team added three more runs on a three-run home run to left field off the bat of Otero, as the Eagles increased its lead to 11-0.

John Jay got on the board in the top of the seventh. Michael Manzoeillo walked before Simaan double to left center, giving the Bloodhounds runners in scoring position with no outs.

The visitors loaded the bases after Michalski worked a walk. With two outs now in the frame, Thomas Salerno drew a free pass, as Manzoeillo crossed the plate. Spallin stepped in and ripped a single to right field that plated home Simaan, as the Bloodhounds cut the deficit to nine.

Saint Elizabeth tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the eight, which preserved the victory for the Eagles.

The Bloodhounds will be back on the diamond on Wednesday, April 12, as they conclude their regular season matchup with St. Joseph's University - Brooklyn at 3:00 p.m.
