Men's Tennis Falls In A Pair Of CUNYAC Matches To Conclude 2023 Regular Season

Jamaica, NY - The John Jay men's tennis team concluded the 2023 regular season with back-to-back CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) matches, falling to Lehman College on April 17 (9-0) and dropping a 9-0 decision to Hunter at York College on April 18. 
 
The Bloodhounds will gear up for the CUNY Championships, which are set to begin on Thursday, April 20. 
 
John Jay vs. Lehman
The pairing of Hamad Alobeidlli and Qudus Kolapo put forth a valiant effort at No. 1 doubles before being edged out by Steven Forte and Christian Agudo, 8-4.
 
Samir Ghimire and Rezwanul Hague narrowly upended the pairing of Caroline Lopez and Viola Avdyli, falling 8-7 (8-6). 
 
Ghimire rattled off a 6-1 winner in the first set at No.2 singles play against Agudo but Agudo was able to get back in the match with a 6-4 winner and took the tiebreaker, 10-4. 
 
Haque also forced a third set at No. 3, after dropping a 6-4 decision in the opening set. He raced back for a 6-3 winner before Kenneth Davis edged him out, 10-7. 
 
Kolapo was the third Bloodhound to force three sets in his singles match as he took on Richie Magaribi at No. 4. After being shutout 6-0, Kolapo came back with a 6-4 winner, forcing the deciding set but Magaribi was able to hold off his comeback attempt with a 10-5 triumph.

Hunter raced out to an early 3-0 lead after taking the doubles matches 8-2; 8-1; 8-1. 
 
In singles, Alobeidlli narrowly forced a third set but fell to Jairo Baquiero Molina, 6-0; 7-6 (10-6) in No. 1. 
 
Haque fell at No. 3 to Kenneth Del Cid, 6-2; 6-2 as the Hawks only allowed four more points over the final three matches to come away with the victory.
