Newburgh, NY -  The John Jay baseball team trailed 4-0 after the first but cut the deficit in half in their half of the third until the Mount Saint Mary Knights scored four more runs and tacked on six in the fifth before wrapping up an 18-3 victory on Thursday afternoon.

The Bloodhounds threatened early as David Michalski led off the inning with a walk. With one out, Spallin singled through the left side. Both runners advanced with two outs on a wild pitch before Agosta drew a walk to load the bases but all were stranded as Lockhart struck out Joseph Salerno to end the inning.

Mount Saint Mary staged a four-run bottom of the first, as Goodwin came in on the RBI single by Tait. A bases loaded walk to Nolasco made it 2-0 before a fielder's choice grounder brought in a pair, upping the Knights' lead to four.

John Jay cut the deficit in half, 4-2, in the top of the third. Michalski kick started the inning with a single to right field before moving over to second on a passed ball.

With one out, Spallin doubled to left center that plated home Michalski. Two batters later, Agosta stepped in and laced a triple to left center, scoring Spallin that made it 4-2 but he was stranded at third as Liam Horan struck out Joseph Salerno to end the frame.

Coleman Barnes homered to start off the bottom of the third as the Knights lead grew to 5-2. Back-to-back walks from Preston Reitz gave the home team a pair of runners on for Goodwin a batter later, as he cleared the bases with a triple through the right side that made it 7-2.

Anthony Franco added to the Mount Saint Mary lead, lofting a sacrifice fly to right field as Goodwin tagged up from third and scored, giving the Knights a six-run lead.
