Softball Continues Winning Ways With Sweep Of Doubleheader At York; Jailene Santiago Notches Third No-Hitter Of The Season In Game One

Bellerose, NY - The John Jay softball team earned two more CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) victories on Friday afternoon, sweeping York College, 20-0 and 12-3.
 
With the victories, the Bloodhounds improve to 20-13 overall and 5-1 in league play while the Cardinals falter to 1-16 and 0-6 in league contests. 
 
Jailene Santiago produced her third no-hitter of the season in game one against the Cardinals, throwing five scoreless innings while issuing one walk and matching a season-high with 12 strikeouts. At the plate, she went a combined 6 for 8 while driving in nine RBIs on the day. 
 

 
Game 1 - John Jay 20, York 0 (5 innings)
Maleea Gallaspy and Santiago each had three hits in the contest with Santiago driving in a team-high five RBIs in the victory. 
 
Angelina Schoelles, who went 1 for 2 with two runs scored, drove in three RBIs while Gallaspy, Rylea Sandel, Kelly Fajardo and Mackenzie Tresch each added two RBIs. 
 
Jordyn Prince and Tresch joined the duo with multi-hit performance, adding two hits. Gallaspy scored a team-best four runs. 
 
The Bloodhounds jumped out to an early 8-0 advantage, as John Jay sent 13 batters to the plate in the opening frame. 
 
Santiago reached on an error by the leftfielder that plated home Prince for the first run of the contest. 
 
Fajardo drew a bases loaded walk before Santiago scored on a fielding error off the bat of Kayla Sauers that made it 3-0. 
 
Tresch walked before Elika Rodrigues reached on a fielder's choice that plated home the Bloodhounds' fifth run. 
 
Gallaspy drew a bases loaded free pass in her second at-bat of the first inning before Schoelles sent a two-run single to center that made it 8-0. 
 
Following a scoreless second inning, John Jay tacked on four more runs in their half of the third. Santiago walked that brough in Prince making it 9-0.
 
Sandel reached on a fielding error by the left fielder as Gallaspy scored from third. Fajardo was issued a walk before Sauers sent an RBI grounder back to the pitcher, making it 12-0 in favor of the road team. 
 
Santiago continued her hot hitting in the top of the fourth as she sent a double to left center field scoring Gallaspy, who kicked off the frame with double. 
 
In the top of the fifth, the Bloodhounds tacked on seven more runs to preserve the victory. Gallaspy sent a one-out RBI single to center field that brought in Tresch. 
 
Schoelles drew a bases loaded walk before Santiago recorded her fourth and fifth RBIs of the contest on a hard-hit double. 
 
Sandel added a double that brough in Schoelles to make it an 18-0 advantage. 
 
Miranda Perez reached on a fielder's choice that scored Santiago before a Tresch RBI single to right scored Sandel giving the Bloodhounds the victory. 
 
Game 2 - John Jay 12, York 3 (5 innings)
Santiago led the way with three hits while driving in four RBIs in the second game of the twinbill. Schoelles was credited with two RBIs while Gallaspy, Sandel, Fajardo, Emily Sperl and Tresch each added an RBI. 
 
Tresch earned her first win of the season, going the full five innings, giving up one hit, three runs (two earned) while striking out four and yielding nine walks. 
 
Nayelly Rojas had the lone hit for the Cardinals, finishing 1 for 2 in the second game. 
 
Similar to game one, John Jay erupted for eight runs in the opening frame as Santiago got the scoring going with an RBI single to centerfield, scoring Prince. 
 
Sandel and Fajardo each had hard-hit RBI singles to center field as the Bloodhounds went ahead by three.
 
Sperl was hit by a pitch that brought in Santiago to make it 4-0 before Tresch lofted a sacrifice fly to left, bringing in Sandel. 
 
Gallaspy added a RBI single to left center before Schoelles capped the scoring with a RBI single to left field as the Bloodhounds pushed their lead to eight. 
 
The Bloodhounds added two more runs in the top of the third and fourth, taking a 12-0 lead. 
 
Santiago continued to be a catalyst at the plate for the visitors adding an RBI single to left cent that made it 10-0 before singling to left, scoring both Rodrigues and Tresch in the fourth to make it 12-0. 
 
The Cardinals got on the board in the bottom of the inning, as Rojas, who broke up Tresch's no-hit bid with a single to left, scored on a wild pitch. 
 
An error by Sandel in the bottom of the fifth allowed York to score their second run of the game before Sofia Soric reached on an error by Sandel at short that plated home their second run.
 
Lisseny Florentino, who reached on a fielder's choice, scored on a wild pitch before Tresch got Dazey to ground out, ending the contest. 
 
The Bloodhounds will host Lehman College on Friday, April 28 at Fordham University with first-pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
