Softball Extends Win Streak To Five; Completes Sweep Of Lehman On Friday

Bronx, NY - The John Jay softball team continued their winning ways, extending their win streak to five straight after picking up a 13-0 and 12-0 triumphs over Lehman on Friday afternoon. 
 
With today's results, the Bloodhounds improve to 22-13 and 7-1 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play while the Lightning fall to 11-17 and 0-8 in the league.
 
Game 1 - Lehman 0, John Jay 13
Eight of the nine starters got a hit for the Bloodhounds in the opening contest with Jailene Santiago leading the way, going 3 for 3 with three runs scored and driving in five RBIs. Two of the three hits went for home runs for the Albany, NY native. 
 
Maleea Gallaspy joined Santiago with three hits and three runs score while driving in three RBIs. Rylea Sandel added two RBIs while Kayla Sauers drove in a run as well.
 
Santiago cruised inside-the-circle, earning her 17th win of the season as she allowed just two hits over the five innings while recording a new season-high 13 strikeouts. 
 
The Bloodhounds scored first in the bottom of the first. Jordyn Prince reached on a fielding error by the Lehman first baseman and moved to second.
 
Gallaspy was down in the count 0-1 before lacing an RBI single back up the middle to score Prince for the first score of the game. 
 
Angelina Schoelles reached on an infield single back to the pitcher before Santiago uncorked a three-run home run to right center as John Jay went up 4-0. 
 
The Bloodhounds sparked a six-run bottom of the second to go up 10-0. Gallaspy laced a ground-rule double that scored Prince, making it 5-0. 
 
After both Schoelles and Gallaspy came into score, Sandel sent a bases-clearing single to right field as the home team went ahead 8-0. 
 
Kelly Fajardo reached on an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error by the first baseman, which allowed Sandel to score. 
 
Sauers capped the scoring with an RBI single to right field that brought home Fajardo from second, making it 10-0. 
 
Gallaspy continued her hot hitting with a RBI single to left that made it 11-0 before Santiago connected on her second home run of the day, this one to left field as John Jay went ahead 13-0. 
 
Santiago lost her bid for a fourth no-hit and potential second perfect game in the top of the fourth as Perez reached on a single to third. 
 
In the top of the fifth, the Lightning rallied, as Lopez doubled to right field but Santiago was able to get Marin looking at strike three on the outside corner, giving the Bloodhounds the win. 
 
Game 2 - Lehman 0, John Jay 12
Gallaspy and Sandel each had three hits in the nightcap with both adding an RBI. Santiago and Mackenzie Tresch drove in two RBIs while Prince and Elika Rodrigues each added an RBI. 
 
Santiago notched her eighth complete game of the season as she allowed just one hit over the five innings while giving up a walk and striking out 12 batters. 
 
Prince led off with a walk and stole second. Gallaspy ripped a double to left off the 2-1 count as the Bloodhounds had runners at second and third. Both moved up on a wild pitch as Prince scored. 
 
The Bloodhounds added their second run as Gallaspy scored before Schoelles walked and picked off at second. 
 
The game remained that way until the bottom of the third as John Jay scored six times to go up 8-0. Santiago clubbed her third home run of the game, a two-run shot to left field to make it 4-0. 
 
Tresch and Rodrigues sent RBI base hits that made it 6-0 before Prince reached on a bases loaded fielder's choice, as Sauers beat the tag at the plate. 
 
Gallaspy, who started the inning with a double, sent an RBI single to right field that brought in Tresch. 
 
The Bloodhounds added four more in the bottom of the fourth. Sandel sent an RBI double to left. Miranda Perez, who pinch-hit for Fajardo, walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch that brought in Jogelys Sanchez, who pinch-run for Santiago, as John Jay went up 10-0.
 
Tresch added a RBI single that brought in Sandel but was tagged out at second, which allowed Perez to score. 
 
Santiago allowed a walk to Santamaria but struck out the side to record her 18th win of the year. 
 
The Bloodhounds will play one game at Farmingdale State on Tuesday, May 2 at 4:00 p.m. before closing out the regular season on Saturday, May 6 at Baruch College.
