Bloodhounds Stage Sixth Inning But Fall To Old Westbury, 17-10, On Senior Night

Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay baseball team was down by eight runs, 10-2, after the top of the fifth until the Bloodhounds scored one in their half of the frame, erupting for five more to cut the deficit to three, 11-8. 
 
The Panthers answered back with three runs in the top of the seventh and tacked on three more in the top of the ninth to pull ahead for a 17-10 road victory. 
 
With the loss, the Bloodhounds fall to 2-33 while the Panthers move to 12-16 on the season. 
 
David Michalski and Ethan Simaan each notched three hits on the evening with Simaan and Michael Manzoeillo each driving in three RBIs for the Bloodhounds. Michael Mauro, Manzoeillo and Anthony Agosta each collected two hits on the evening with Agosta adding two RBIs. Michalski and Mauro also added an RBI. 
 
Jacob Taormina and Dominic Felicetti each had two hits on the night for the Panthers with Taormina driving in a team-high four RBIs on the evening. Oscar Fajardo registered three RBIs while John Moeller, John Tardino, and Felicetti each adding two. 
 
The Bloodhounds recognized their six seniors - Manzoeillo, Ismael Tatis, Ryan Kilcarr, Saul Zoquier, Christian Sanacora, and Preston Reitz. Sanacora was tagged with the loss, throwing 1.1 innings giving up four runs on two hits while walking three batters.
 

 
Jamal Ritter kicked things off for the visitors with a single through the left side and stole the first of his four bases on the night. A walk to John Dell'Olio loaded the bases for Fajardo, who cleared them with a double down the left field line, giving the visitors an early 3-0 lead. Jaime Barrios lofted a sacrifice fly to center that plated home Fajardo, making it 4-0. 
 
Michalski led off the bottom of the first with a walk and then stole second. A walk to Mauro gave the Bloodhounds a pair of runners. With one out, Manzoeillo was hit by a pitch to load the bases and end Rohan Raju's evening. 
 
Justin Aramini, who picked up the win after going 3.2 innings, struck out Agosta for the second out. Simaan stepped in and ripped RBI single to left field that plated home Michalski for the first Bloodhound run. 
 
Following a scoreless inning, Old Westbury scored three runs in the top of the third, extending their lead to 7-1, following an RBI grounder from Aaron Castillo and a two-run double off the bat of Felicetti. 
 
John Jay got one back in the bottom of the fourth. A one-out single from Simaan, a walk to Zoquier and a single by Kilcarr loaded the bases for John Jay. 
 
With now two outs, Michalski roped an RBI single to left that scored Simaan, making it 7-2 in favor of Old Westbury. The Bloodhounds threatened for more but Mauro sent a hard-hit ground to short as Michalski was forced out to end the frame. 
 
In the top of the fifth, the Panthers strung together three more runs to go up 10-2 with the big hit in the inning coming off the bat of Taormina, who connected on a three-run, double down the left field line. 
 
With Old Westbury sending Joseph Lubra in for Aramini, John Spallin led off the fifth with a walk, before stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch. A walk to Manzoiello put runners on the corners for Agosta, who sent a single to left field that made it 10-3 in favor of the visitors. 
 
Old Westbury added a score in the top of the sixth as Moeller scored on a wild pitch while Barrios moved to third. In the bottom half of the inning, John Jay rallied back with five runs, cutting the lead to 11-8. 
 
The Bloodhounds nearly batted around as Michalski doubled to second base before Mauro doubled to left center, bringing in Michalski. Tatis singled to right field, as the home team had runners on the corners with one out. 
 
The next batter, Manzoeillo, singled through the left side that brought in Mauro, making it 11-5. The next batter, Agosta, singled to left field and moved to second on a throwing error by the shortstop as Tatis crossed the plate. Simaan stepped up and sent a two-run single up the middle, making it 11-8. 
 
The Panthers responded with three scores in the top of the seventh, going ahead, 14-8. Taormina doubled down the left field line that plated home Ritter, who reached on a fielding error by the centerfielder and then, stole third. 
 
Dell'Olio singled to right field that gave the visitors runners on first and third for Moeller, who uncorked a single to right field, making it 14-8 and ending Michael Luongo's evening. 
 
The Bloodhounds clawed back with two runs in their half of the seventh. A one-out single by Michalski ended Michael Pokorny's night. Mauro executed a well-timed hit-and-run through the right side, as John Jay had runners of the corners. Manzoeillo singled to right center and moved to second on the throw that plated home both Mauro and Michalski, as the lead shrunk to 14-10. 
 
Following scoreless eighth inning, the Panthers added three more runs in the top of the ninth, as Nick Papageorge brought in Dell'Olio on a RBI single to left before Tardino sending a double to left field, scoring a pair, making it 17-10. 
 
With inclement weather expected in the forecast this weekend, John Jay's road contest at Baruch has been moved up a day, as the Bloodhounds and Bearcats will now square off on Friday, April 28, at 12:00 p.m. from Bronx Community College. The second game of the doubleheader is slated for 3:00 p.m.
