Baseball Falls In Home CUNYAC Tilt Against Baruch At Trenton Thunder Ballpark

Trenton, NJ - The John Jay baseball hosted the Baruch College Bearcats in their first-ever games at Trenton Thunder Ballpark on Saturday. 
 
The Bloodhounds fell 14-3 in game one and 17-2 in the nightcap. 
 
With the losses, John Jay falls to 2-25 and 0-4 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play while Baruch moves to 4-10 on the year and 3-1 in conference action. 
 
Game 1 - John Jay 3, Baruch 14 
John Spallin led the way for the Bloodhounds, going 2 for 3 with a run scored. Ethan Simaan, Saul Zoquier, and Joseph Salerno each added a hit. 
 
Roy Longarzo collected three hits while scoring three runs. Andrew Horyczun, Joseph Cocozza, and Kenneth Taveras registered two hits with Horyczun and Cocozza driving in three RBIs. 
 
Baruch's Nathaniel Demchak earned his second win of the season, going five innings, allowing three runs on three hits while walking two and striking out nine. 
 
Marc Weeks was tagged with the loss, allowing eight runs on five hits.
 
Baruch sparked an eight-run first inning as Horyczun doubled in the first run of the game before scoring on a Cocozza triple to right that made it 2-0. Pedro Tejada Jr. sent a hard-hit single that plated home Cocozza, making it 3-0. 
 
Brian Hwang doubled to left field, bringing in a pair of runners, increasing the lead to 5-0. Joseph Bello delivered a two-run single up the middle that increased the lead to 7-0 before Longarzo added an RBI base hit extending the lead to 8-0. 
 
The Bearcats added two more scores in the third and fourth innings, building a 12-0 lead, as Taveras doubled to right center to cap off the fourth inning. 
 
John Jay got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three times. Spallin singled, which loaded the bases before Zoquier scored on an fielding error by the right fielder. 
 
Joseph Salerno scored the second run on a passed ball before Spallin came in the same way, cutting the lead to 12-3. 
 
The Bearcats sealed the victory with two more runs in the top of the seventh, as Horyczun lofted a sacrifice fly to left before Cocozza singled to left field, bringing home Longarzo. 
 
Game 2 - John Jay 2, Baruch 16
Michael Mauro and Michael Manzoeillo each had two hits while Manzoeillo and Thomas Salerno drove in both runs.
 
Cocozza led the way for the visitors with four hits while driving in five RBIs. Longarzo added three hits while scoring five runs while Tejada Jr. accounted for four RBIs and two hits. 
 
Baruch scored first on the RBI infield single to short off the bat of Cocozza. The Bearcats tacked on three more runs in the top of the third, increasing their lead 4-0. 
 
The Bloodhounds scored in the bottom of the third, as Manzoeillo sent an RBI single to center field, scoring Anthony Agosta from second. 
 
Baruch added to its lead with two more in the top of the fourth, going up 6-1, thanks to an RBI double by Cocozza. 
 
The visitors opened up the scoring in the top of the fifth, scoring eight times in increasing the lead to 14-1. Tejada Jr. sent one of the biggest hits in the frame, a bases-clearing three-run triple that made it 12-1 before Hwang and Wakely added RBI hits. 
 
Baruch added two more in the top of the sixth before Thomas Salerno added an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning. 
 
The Bloodhounds are set to embark on a six-game road swing, beginning on Tuesday, April 11, as they will travel to Morristown, NJ to square off against Saint Elizabeth University. 
 
First-pitch is set for noon.
