No. 1 Seeded Softball Tops No. 3 Seed Hunter, 9-1; Advances To CUNYAC Championship Game Friday

Brooklyn, NY - In a rematch of last season's CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) title game, the top-seeded John Jay softball team posted a 9-1 triumph over the No. 3 seed, Hunter College, to conclude Day 1 of the CUNYAC Championships. 
 
With the win, the Bloodhounds move to 25-15 overall and will await the winner of the No. 2 seed Baruch and No. 3 Hunter contest as John Jay will vie for their second league championship and first since winning the league back in 2000.
 
 
Jailene Santiago pitched the full five innings for the Bloodhounds, earning her 21st win of the season while her counterpart, Alyssa Curia, drops to 5-5 on the year. 
 
Four Bloodhounds collected two hits in the contest in Maleea Gallaspy, Rylea Sandel, Kelly Fajardo and Mackenzie Tresch
 
Santiago and Sidney Bankston each drove in a pair of RBIs while Gallaspy, Sandel, Fajardo, and Tresch each tallied an RBI. 
 
Sophia Perez led Hunter with two hits while Leah Dillon was credited with the lone RBI of the afternoon for the Hawks. 
 
The Bloodhounds erupted for six runs in their first inning. Jordyn Prince led off with a walk before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Gallaspy singled and John Jay had runners on the corners with no outs. 
 
The next batter, Angelina Schoelles, bunted up the third base line that moved Gallaspy into scoring position.
 
Santiago plated the first run of the contest for the Bloodhounds, lofting a sacrifice fly to left that scored Prince. The next batter, Sandel, ripped an RBI base knock to right, bringing in Gallaspy that made it 2-0. 
 
Farjardo singled to right and moved up to second on the throw with Sandel sprinting to third with two outs. A walk to Kayla Sauers loaded the bases, but a passed ball allowed Sandel to cross the plate for the third run of the frame. 
 
Bankston stepped in and ripped a single to center field that the centerfielder misplayed, leading to two runs scoring as the Bloodhounds increased the lead to 5-0. 
 
Tresch stepped up to the plate and laced a screaming triple to right field, scoring Bankston as John Jay pushed the lead to six. 
 
Hunter got on the board in the top of the second. Curia led off the inning with a single before Nicole Bowe reached on the fielder's choice. The next hitter, Dillion, doubled to left, scoring Bowe, for the Hawks only run of the contest. 
 
In the bottom of the inning, the Bloodhounds added two more scores, as Santiago singled to left that brought in Gallaspy, who walked to start the stanza.
 
A walk to Sandel brought up Fajardo, who delivered a hard-hit RBI single that scored Sandel as she moved to second on the bobble by the right fielder. which made it 8-1 in favor of John Jay. 
 
Gallaspy continued her hot approach at the dish, sending a single up the first base line but was called out when getting back to the bag, but, not before Tresch crossed the plate, making it 9-1 in favor of the CUNYAC regular-season champions. 
 
Santiago continued to thwart the Hawks comeback plans, as she struck out Jessica Fowl to end the contest and send the Bloodhounds to the title game.
