Kevin Luciano's Three-Goal Outing Lifts Men's Soccer To First Win Of 2023 Season Over St. Joseph's University - Brooklyn

New York, NY -  The John Jay men's soccer team opened its 2023 season with a 4-1 home triumph over the St. Joseph's University - Brooklyn Bears on Friday afternoon on Randall's Island - Field 74.

With the win, the Bloodhounds move to 2-1 all-time against the Bears.

Both teams had early chances in the opening minutes of the contest, until the 14' minute, where John Jay struck first.

Junior forward Kevin Luciano curved the ball to the back of left of the net that gave the Bloodhounds an early 1-0 advantage.

The Bears tried to strike back as Victor Naci was denied the tying goal in the 15' minute by Bloodhounds goalkeeper, Tyler Solis

In the 22', the visitors knotted the match at 1-1 as Naci wouldn't be denied this time around, as he received the feed from Lorenzo LaRosa on the give and goal and Naci booted one past Solis to even the score.

John Jay wasted little time in getting the go-ahead score. In the 48' minute, the Bears were assessed a penalty with Luciano stepping up to take the chance. He was able to push one to right of the outstretch keeper to give the Bloodhounds a 2-1 lead.

In the 63', Justin Gharbin was the benefactor from the give and go feed from Junior Guaman as the John Jay lead increased to 3-1.

Needing just a goal for the hat trick, Luciano dribbled to his left and sent one to the back of the net in the 74', giving the veteran Bloodhound his first-career three goal game.

The men's soccer team will embark on a four-game road trip, beginning on Wednesday, September 6, as they will head to Riverdale, NY to tangle with Mount Saint Vincent.

Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
