Women's Tennis Earns First Win Of 2023; Defeats Sarah Lawrence, 7-2 On Thursday

Bronxville, NY - The John Jay women's tennis team earned their first win of the 2023 campaign, defeating the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons, 7-2, on Thursday evening from the Sarah Lawrence Courts. 
 
In the process, the road victory marked the first win for head coach David Muchnick. 
 

 
"Very proud of our teams on a hard-fought win against a solid Sarah Lawrence program," commented Muchnick. "Being able to bounce back after a tough setback on Tuesday to open the season, I'm thrilled with our performances tonight. Now, onto Brooklyn and our CUNYAC opener next Tuesday." 
 
The Bloodhounds secured a pair of victories in doubles. The tandem of Antigone Alexander and Dakota Himaya locked in a 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles while the duo of Sarina Moi and Cindy Liguicota edged out the pairing of Jackie Palmen and Kyra Johnsen, 8-5. 
 
Alexander earned her first collegiate win at No. 1 singles. Moi bested Sasha Conner, 6-3; 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
 
Himaya collected a 6-3; 7-5 triumph over Neomi Spellman at No. 3 singles. Liguicota and newcomer Danny Canning wrapped up the match with wins at No. 5 and No. 6, 8-2 and 8-6, respectively. 
 
John Jay opens up CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play on Tuesday, September 19, as the Bloodhounds travels to Brooklyn College for a 3:00 p.m. match.
