Women's Tennis Opens CUNYAC Play With Road Triumph At Brooklyn On Tuesday

Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay women's tennis team earned back-to-back wins, securing their first CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) win of the season, besting Brooklyn 7-2 on Tuesday. The Bloodhounds move to 2-1 on the year while the Bulldogs fall to 1-2 and 1-1 in league play. Today's match marked the 24th all-time meeting between the two schools, with the head-to-head series now tied at 12-12.

Additionally, the 7-2 score is the highest margin of victory over the Bulldogs since 2006, when the Bloodhounds earned a 8-1 home win nearly 17 years to the day (September 21, 2006).

"Proud of our team today as they were able to build upon the momentum from the weekend and pick up the first conference win of the season," commented head coach David Muchnick. "We continue to improve match after match and ultimately grow as a team."

John Jay took all three doubles matches to get an early lead in the match. The pairing of Antigone Alexander and Dakota Himaya secured an 8-4 triumph over Veronika Tsiko and Rebecca Finney at No. 1. Sarina Moi and Cindy Liguicota also earned an 8-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles over the duo of Saoirse Ebert and Devorah Scheinfeld. Gloria Glenn and Riya Shah picked up a 8-3 win at No. 3.

Himaya made it 6-0 in the overall match, defeating Scheinfeld, 6-1; 6-0. Brooklyn earned wins at No. 4 singles, as Finney edged out Glenn, 4-6; 6-2; 10-6 while Diana Rezk defeated Liguicota, 7-5; 7-5, in another tightly contested match.

Newcomer Danny Canning earned her second singles victory of the season, earning an 8-6 win over Linging Zhu at No. 6 singles play.
