Women's Volleyball Earns Sixth Straight Victory; Blanks CCNY To Remain Perfect In CUNYAC Play

New York, NY - The John Jay women's volleyball team earned their sixth straight victory, blanking the CCNY Beavers on Tuesday evening from The Doghouse, 3-0.
 
With the win, the Bloodhounds move to 6-1 overall on the season while remaining undefeated in CUNYAC play, moving to 4-0 on the year. The Beavers fall to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play. 
 
Tonight's contest marked the 36th all-time meeting between the two schools with the overall head-to-head series now knotted at 18-18. The Bloodhounds move to 12-1 all-time at home against the Beavers as they earned their fifth straight win against CCNY. 
 
Josanne Lewis led the way for the Bloodhounds with 12 kills. Meghan Smith notched 34 assists while falling just one dig shy of a double-double (9). Faith Harer led the squad with five aces. Malia Reyes added four service aces in the victory. 
 
Bianka Catral paced CCNY with five kills on the evening while Rosalynda Russo notched a team-best eight digs. 
 
First Set - John Jay raced out to 9-1 advantage, capped by a kill from Smith after Harer started the match recording two aces. The visitors trimmed the deficit down to five, 18-13, following an attack error from Lewis. A 7-4 run by John Jay closed out the first set as Harer closed the set with a kill. 
 
Second Set - The Bloodhounds took an 8-3 lead thanks to a service ace from Haileyh Waugaman. The Beavers narrowed the gap to four, 12-8 following a Bloodhounds attack error. Aniko Ouwendijk sealed the set with a kill from Meghan Smith as John Jay went ahead by two in the overall match. 
 
Third Set - The home team jumped out to a 5-1 lead on Reilly Catan's ace. CCNY answered back to tie the game at 5-5 following an attack error. The two teams went back-and-forth before Catan notched the kill on Arianna Rivas, giving John Jay a 14-12 edge. An 11-3 run, sealed by a kill from Lewis propelled John Jay to their sixth straight victory and their fourth consecutive conference win. 
 
The Bloodhounds will hit the road on Thursday, September 21, as they will travel to Mahwah, NJ to tangle with Ramapo. First-serve is set for 7:00 P.M.
