Women's Soccer Concludes Non-Conference Slate With 4-2 Triumph Over Centenary

Queens, NY - Returning to the place in which they won their last three CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) league titles, the John Jay women's soccer team concluded their non-conference slate with a 4-2 triumph over Centenary on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Bloodhounds move to 3-4 on the season while the Cyclones fall to 2-5-1 on the season.

John Jay struck early on for a pair of goals. Two minutes into the match, Emma Fisher corralled the loose ball after Nora O'connor blasted a shot that was blocked, as Fisher pushed one past Centenary's Emma Ferfecki for the first goal of the match.

A minute later, Lucia Giangaspero fired off a long range shot that made it 2-0 in favor of the Bloodhounds.

John Jay continued to fire on all cylinders, netting their third goal of the match as O'Connor received the feed from Mikayla Schoch and booted a left-footed attempt that beat Ferfecki, extending the Bloodhounds lead to 3-0.

On the ensuing Cyclones' possession, Liliana Flores got the visitors on the board after getting the feed from teammate Rebecca Kopf, as Centenary trailed 3-1.

The Cyclones nearly trailed by one, as Blaise Vallorosi fired a shot that went wide while Allisandra Auletta's chance was denied by Lily Velo

In the 24' the Bloodhounds netted their fourth tally of the match, as Fisher notched her second goal of the contest when O'Connor spotted her off the give and go.

John Jay continued to build upon their momentum, as Sierra Dazhan fired off a shot from the right side but Ferfecki was there to make the stop.

With a few minutes remaining before halftime, the visitors trimmed the lead in half, as Ashley D'Allesandro scored off the corner kick feed from Eve Haddad.

Dazhan had a second attempt to extend the Bloodhounds lead, but her chance was stopped by Ferfecki and O'Connor fired off a shot just before the halftime horn that also found the waiting arms of Ferfecki.

Both teams finished with 12 shots in the opening half, but in the second half, it was John Jay who held an 11-4 edge in shot attempts, with Ferfecki making five stops in the stanza.

Velo concluded the match with three saves as the Bloodhounds took a total of 23 shots, 12 shots on goal while the Cyclones recorded 16 with five of those being on target.

John Jay opens up conference play with a rematch of last season's CUNYAC's title match as the Bloodhounds will host CCNY on Saturday, October 7 on Randall's Island - Field 70.

Kickoff is slated for 10:30 a.m.
