Women's Basketball Posts Wire-To-Wire Road Win At Medgar Evers For Fifth Straight Win On Friday Evening

Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay women's basketball team collected their fifth straight victory on Friday evening, besting Medgar Evers, 72-45. 
 
The Bloodhounds improve to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in CUNYAC play while the Cougars fall to 4-8 overall and 1-5 in league action. 
 
Kamryn Hammond and Chayanne Kelly each scored in double-figures with Hammond leading the way with 22 points on 8 of 15 shooting from the field which included a 6 of 11 display from three-point range. 
 
The Poughkeepsie, NY native grabbed eight rebounds while also recording five steals and dished out four assists in her 28 minutes of play. 
 
Kelly netted 15 points on 5 of 12 while pulling down six rebounds, notching four steals and distributed four assists in her 26 minutes. 
 
Three Cougars reached double digits on the night, led by Andecia Liverpool, who tallied 13 points on 6 of 8 shooting in 18 minutes. She grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds as well. 
 
Sheily Quezada and Jennifer Metra each scored 11 points with Quezada matching Liverpool with a team-leading eight rebounds. She also added three assists, three blocks and two steals.

"As a team, we did a great job on the boards tonight. Kamryn (Hammond) got us going from long range that sparked the offense. We had some great minutes from Natalie (Simonds) and Tiffany (Bogle) propelled us to another balanced team win." 

The Bloodhound built a 13-point advantage 20-7 following a layup from Hannah Ruberto off the feed from Hammond. Medgar Evers scored the final four points of the first quarter, trimming the deficit to nine, 20-11. 
 
The Cougars continued to fight back, trialing but just six, 28-22, with Liverpool hitting on a jumper in the paint. John Jay finished the quarter on a 10-2 run and a 38-24 lead. 
 
Hammond netted 19 of her 22 points in the first, going 7 of 11 in and drilling five three pointers in the frame.
 
The Bloodhounds continued to add their lead and finished the second half outscoring Medgar Evers, 34-21 thanks to a 24-14 third quarter. 
 
For the game, John Jay shot 40.3 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from the outside. The Bloodhounds defense held Medgar Evers to just 28.8 percent shooting and just 18.2 percent from long range. 
 
John Jay held a 50-34 edge on the glass while 30 of their 72 points came from inside the paint. 
 
The Bloodhounds close out their three-game road trip on Tuesday, January 23 as they are scheduled to take on York College at 5:00 p.m.
