Rifle Drops Pair Of Matches In Weekend Competition To University Of Rhode Island and No. 7 Ranked Ole Miss

Greenwich, CT | West Point, NY - The John Jay rifle team competed in two matches at two locations this weekend. On Saturday, the Bloodhounds hosted newcomers to the conference, University of Rhode Island at the Cos Cob Range in Greenwich, CT. 
 
On Sunday, John Jay traveled to West Point, NY to tangle with the No. 7 ranked Ole Miss Rebels.

  • Danny Canning led the way for the Bloodhounds in smallbore, finishing at 544. 
  • Kaitlyn Ayers posted a 504 while Rochelle Redwood (476) and Sixmeiry Jimenez Ortiz (466) rounded out the top-four finishes for the Bloodhounds. 
  • For Jimenez Ortiz, the smallbore competition marked her first-ever small bore match. 
  • Canning paced the field in the airgun, hitting for 581. 
  • Natalia Alegarbes was next at 559 while Redwood and Ayers rounded out the Bloodhounds quartet in 533 and 527, respectively.

"I was impressed with our three newcomers, as they all cracked the 500 mark with as Evelyn Mendez and Jimenez each shot 503 while Maria Belev fired off a 506."

  • Canning was the top Bloodhound shooter in smallbore, posting a mark of 557. Ayers was next at 521 followed by Redwood (506) and Jimenez (469). 
  • Alegarbes (469), Shaad Choudhury (445) and Iverson Chen (437) rounded out the John Jay competitors against the Rebels.
  • In airgun, Canning was the top finisher for the Bloodhounds, as she concluded the competition with a 577. 
  • Alegarbes was next at 547 while Redwood (533), Ayers and Jimenez Ortiz both shot 528. 
  • Chen also reached 500, completing the meet with 503 while Choudhury and Mendez posted marks of 487 and 465.

"I was proud of our team effort against a nationally-ranked like Ole Miss. Our team score in smallbore of 2053 was our highest of the season and all four of our top shooters recorded personal-bests. 
 
John Jay will be back in the range on Saturday, February 10 as they will travel to Akron, OH to compete against the No. 11 ranked University of Akron Zips.
