Schoch's Late Goal Propels John Jay To Conference Opening Victory Over CCNY In CUNYAC Final Rematch

Jamaica, NY - Following a 1-1 tie at halftime, the John Jay women's soccer team trailed by a goal a minute into the second half against the defending CUNYAC champions, CCNY.

Newcomer Anna Wehr evened the match with a score in the 67' off the pass from Mikayla Schoch that made it 2-2.

For the second time in her three years, Schoch delivered the game-winner against the Beavers, scoring on the Bloodhounds' final possession, as John Jay defeated the Beavers, 3-2, at the York College Field.

With the victory, John Jay moves to 4-5-1 while CCNY drops to 1-7-1. Today's match was the conference opener for both squads.

The Bloodhounds came out on the offensive early on as Emma Fisher fired off a shot that smacked off the post two minutes into the contest.

CCNY tested Gianna Duarte on their first possession of the match but she was up to the task.

John Jay got on the board as Fisher found Olivia Boucher, who buried her team's and conference-leading 12th goal of the season, giving the Bloodhounds a 1-0 advantage. Fisher notched her fifth assist of the season and eighth of her tenure.

The Bloodhounds continued to apply pressure as Surya Nero fired a chance two minutes later but Laila Issa was there for the stop.

CCNY evened the score at 1-1 in the 18' as Sara Rodriguez converted off the free kick. Two minutes later, MacKenzie Moreno nearly pushed the Beavers ahead but Duarte made the save.

The two teams continued to find shot attempts. In the 44', Samantha Pinto took a corner for CCNY that found the head of Lennon Leithauser, but Duarte knocked the ball away.

Rodriguez had another chance but her attempt hit the post. With time trickling down, Boucher looked for her second goal of the match but Issa turned it aside as the period ended.

When play resumed for the second half, CCNY wasted little time as Moreno found the back of the back off the feed from Jessica Fuentes.

John Jay's Anna Wehr feverously tried to tie the match as she took three attempts, with two finding Issa.

In the 65', co-captain Alexandria Nembhard booted a shot that Issa denied.

The Bloodhounds continued their drive and this time, Wehr was rewarded. Schoch located Weher who finished the chance, tying the game at 2-2.

The Beavers nearly went up by one in the 85' as Rodriguez tried to push one past Duarte, but she kept the ball away from crossing the goal line.

With time winding down, Schoch was able to corral the ball off a long pass that first touched a CCNY player, but was able to settle the ball and beat Issa, who came out of her goal as Schoch sent the shot to the bottom right for the game-winner.

John Jay outshot CCNY, 16-9 including a 10-7 edge in shots on goal. Duarte finished with five saves while Issa made seven stops.

The Bloodhounds return home on Wednesday, October 16 as they will take on Medgar Evers on Randall's Island - Field 70 at 3:45 p.m.
