Men's Soccer Squanders Early Lead In Setback At Brooklyn On Wednesday

Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay men's soccer got off to a fast start in a pivotal CUNYAC clash with the Brooklyn Bulldogs on Wednesday evening. The Bloodhounds held a 2-1 lead until two goals from George Koufos proved to be the difference as John Jay fell 3-2.

With the outcome, the Bloodhounds fall to 3-9-2 overall and 2-2-1 in league play while the Bulldogs move to 4-2-1 in CUNYAC play and 5-9-1 on the season.

The visitors were out on the offensive in the early moments of the match, as Brayan Alvarez and Karl Menuau each fired off attempts a minute apart. The tenacious Bloodhounds got on the board as Alvarez finished the chance created by Andrew Santos and Marcel Tovar to give John Jay a 1-0 lead on Alvarez's fifth goal of the season

Koufos spearheaded the Brooklyn attack on the evening, as he knotted the match at 1-1 after getting the pass from Bruno Servisi and Bradlej Cupi in the 14'.

John Jay continued to find chances as Daniel Rosa and Tovar each booted a ball with Brian Perea making the save on Rosa's opportunity. The Bloodhounds broke through with the go-ahead score in the 32' as Aaron Cedillo blasted a chance off the turnover from 30 yards out, giving John Jay a 2-1 advantage.

The Bloodhounds held firm to the lead until nine minutes into the second half. Yassin Hairane sent a shot to the top left of the goal that was saved by John Jay keeper, Davio Rossi-Levin.  The ball trickled and found the foot of Koufos who found the back of the net to tie the match at 2-2.

Six minutes later, it was Koufos who ended the stalemate as he put Brooklyn ahead, 3-2. Brooklyn narrowly added a fourth marker but Rossi-Levin was there to turn aside the chance from Servisi.

With ten minutes left in the match, the Bloodhound got attempts from Jonathan Granados and Tover, but both chances were wide of the target. Rossi-Levin made a final stop on the chance from Cupi before the horn sounded.

Rossi-Levin was credited with three stops on the night while his counterpart, Perea, made just one save.

The Bloodhounds will close out the regular season on Friday, October 25, when they take on Medgar Evers at the Red Hook Recreation Center - Field 4 at 2:00 p.m.
