Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay men's soccer team concluded the regular season at the Red Hook Recreation Center on Friday afternoon, taking on the Medgar Evers College Cougars.
The match closed out the CUNY Athletic Conference slate for both sides after the match was rescheduled from its original mid-October date.
The Bloodhounds were unable to overcome a second-half lead.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Charlie Metz gave the Bloodhounds their first chance at the lead in the tenth, playing a shot on net that forced a save by Medgar Evers' Chris Edosomwan.
John Jay keeper Tyler Solis was called into action twice in the first 45 minutes, making saves both times.
The Bloodhounds challenged the Cougars' backline late in the first half as Mario Parano headed a ball on net that was blocked. Kelvin de la Cruz found open space less than 30 seconds later but the shot ran wide of the frame.
Both sides were scoreless in the opening 45 minutes.
The Cougars struck in the 57th minute when Bernado Guerrier received a well-played ball behind the Bloodhound backline. Guerrier struggled to maintain possession in the 18-yard box but managed to slide the ball to Taye Simon from the ground, who slotted the shot to the bottom left corner.
John Jay had a prime opportunity to equalize in the 87th minute, as Parano rang the crossbar on a floating ball from outside the box. The Bloodhounds maintained possession and sent the ball back to Parano, whose second attempt went wide of the goal.
Parano matched Marcel Tovar for a team-high two shots on goal.
Solis ended the match with four saves.
