Women's Soccer Defeats Lehman, 6-1, On Senior Day To Clinch 2024 CUNYAC Regular Season Crown

New York, NY - The John Jay women's soccer team closed out the 2024 regular season on Senior Day Saturday, posting a 6-1 victory over Lehman. 

With the victory, the Bloodhounds secured the 2024 CUNYAC Regular Season title, the program's fourth and first since 2022. John Jay finished the season at 8-5-1 and 5-0-0 in league play. Lehman finishes at 10-4-0 and 4-1-0 in the conference.
 



Before the start of the match, the Bloodhounds honored their seven seniors in a pregame ceremony - Jasmin Arias, Lucia Giangaspero, Mikayla Schoch, Surya Nero, Olivia Boucher, along with co-captains Ellarose Bianca and Alexandria Nembhard.

The Bloodhounds tested Lehman's goalkeeper Katelyn Rice early and often. Two minutes into the contest, Emma Fisher had her attempt blocked before heading the ball high over the net two minutes later. Lehman's first offensive possession led to a save for Gianna Duarte on the attempt by Barbara Meda. in the 6'. Fisher, along with Boucher, Daniela Vazquez, and Surya Nero each fired attempts with Rice making the save on three of the four chances.

The Bloodhounds struck through with the first goal of the match as Fisher finished the chance created from Vazquez in the 16' for her fourth goal of the season. In the 22', Giangaspero netted her fifth goal of the season as the Parkland, FL native converted off the free kick. 

In the 29', the Bloodhounds were awarded a penalty kick. Newcomer Anna Wehr stepped up and buried the chance past Rice, giving John Jay a 3-0 on Wehr's sixth goal of the year. With two minutes to go before halftime, Wehr netted her second goal of the match, as Boucher and Morgan Torres worked well-timed passes to Wehr as the Bloodhounds went up 4-0. John Jay struck quick in the second half. Torres took the corner kick from the left and sent the ball into the box. Boucher outleaped the opposition and beat Rice as the Bloodhounds went up 5-0.

Boucher returned the favor in the 68' as she found Vazquez who blasted a shot from 20 yards out to up the lead to 6-0. 

The visitors got on the board in the 78' as Miriam Bernal headed the ball off the corner kick from Meda.

For the match, John Jay outshot Lehman, 31-4 and 17-3 in shots on goal.

The Bloodhounds will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC Tournament, which will commence on Saturday, November 2.
