Men's Soccer Falls to CCNY, 1-0, On Wednesday Afternoon In CUNYAC Play

New York, NY - The John Jay men's soccer team and CCNY Beavers were pitted in a pivotal CUNYAC conference tilt on Wednesday afternoon on Randall's Island.

The two teams were entrenched in scoreless stalemate until the 71' when the visitors found what turned out to be the go-ahead and game-winner score as John Jay fell 1-0 to CCNY.

The Bloodhounds fall to 2-7-2 on the season and 1-1-1 in league play while the Beavers move to 2-5-3 and 2-0-1 in the conference.

The Bloodhounds had the early chance in the 14' as Maksym Ivanov booted an attempt that sailed wide of the goal.

CCNY's first offensive chance came in the 17' as Yusuf Abdelmegid sent the corner into the box that Adonijah Brooks headed but was misdirected left.

The first official shot on goal by John Jay came in the 24' as Aaron Cedillo fired a chance that found the waiting arms of CCNY's goalkeeper, Carlos Garcia. The visitors tested the Bloodhounds' freshman keeper, Davio Rossilevin, as first Peter Gjini fired a chance that Rossilevin punched aside before Yanis Hamdi Pacha secured the loose ball, but his chance sailed high over the goal.

The first-year netminder kept the match scoreless, as Brooks tried to push one past, but Rossilevin was up to the task. CCNY continued to apply pressure, with their best chance coming in the 39' as Hamdi Pacha sent one on goal off a 2-on-1 breakaway with Arlin Cella.

The Beavers continued their offensive attack, as Yusuf Kassim settled the corner kick from Aliou Ndiaye. Kassim saw space to the bottom right of the goal, but Damian Coronel alertly blocked the ball out of harm's way, keeping the match scoreless.

CCNY started the second half with a shot from Cristian Arellano that sailed high over the net. Brayan Alvarez laced an attempt in the 59' that was secured by Garcia. In the 60', the Beavers nearly scored as a through pass from Michael Guaman found the foot of Arellano but Rossilevin made the stop.

Two minutes later, Joshua Henao-Moreno circled away from his defender and booted a left-foot shot but Garcia was waiting there for the save. Junior Guaman received the ball from Marcel Tovar and sent a right-footed shot but Garcia was in the right spot for the denial.

The Beavers broke through for the game's first score. Hamdi Pacha took a shot that was blocked, setting up a corner kick from Ndiaye. Brooks received the ball and pushed one past Rossilevin, giving CCNY the 1-0 lead.
John Jay managed just one final chance over the final 19 minutes as Daniel Mansur's chance went wide of the target.

The Bloodhounds were outshot, 16-7, with the Beavers sending eight chances on target to John Jay's four. Rossilevin finished with seven saves while Garcia had four. Both teams recorded five corner kicks.

The Bloodhounds will close out their home slate on Saturday, October 12 as they will host York College.
Saturday is Senior Day as John Jay will recognize their nine seniors - Makysm Ivanov, Kelvin De La Cruz, Andrew Santos, Junior Guaman, Tyler Solis, Jonathan Granados, Stephen Haney, Daniel Rosa, and Damian Coronel.
