Women's Basketball Falls In CUNYAC Opener At Brooklyn On Friday

Brooklyn, NY - In a rematch of the last three CUNYAC women's basketball championship matches, the John Jay women's basketball team opened their conference at Brooklyn on Friday evening, falling to the Bulldogs, 66-37.

Michaela Lattimore led John Jay with nine points while Ayanna Edwards stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with eight points, four rebounds, five assists, four steals, and two blocks. All nine Bloodhounds corralled at least two rebounds in the contest.

Two Bulldogs finished in double-figures, led by Anna Kitch's 12-point, nine rebound performance. Alina Estrella tallied 11 points in 29 minutes while adding four assists and four steals.

The Bulldogs claimed an 18-point advantage in the first quarter, capped by an Ameea Daniel layup. Lattimore ended the run with a layup of Alexis Jones's pass.

The Bloodhounds came out in the second quarter with a 7-0 run that cut the deficit down to seven, 27-20, as Lattimore banked in a layup off the feed from Essence Richardson. Brooklyn closed the quarter on a 10-2 burst, as Estrella hit the layup with 15 seconds left before halftime.

The Bloodhounds and Bulldogs couldn't find their shooting touch in the third quarter despite Brooklyn outscoring John Jay, 21-9, in the stanza. The two teams combined for just 13 total points on 6 of 34 shooting in the fourth quarter.

John Jay returns to The Doghouse on Monday, December 9, as they welcome Arcadia at 6:00 p.m.
