Despite Three Scorers Reaching Double Figues, Women's Hoops Drops Home Contest Against Arcadia

New York, NY - Sophomore forward Michaela Lattimore notched her fifth double-double of the season while Ayanna Edwards and Ashley Zeolla scored in double-digits, but it wasn't enough as the John Jay women's basketball team fell to the visiting Arcadia University Knights, 63-51, at The Doghouse on Monday evening.

Lattimore led the way for the Bloodhounds with 15 points on 6 of 13 shooting from the field while pulling down 11 rebounds, the fifth time she has corralled double-digit caroms this year in 22 minutes of action.

Edwards netted 14 points, going 4 of 6 from the free-throw line while helping out on the boards, grabbing a season-high eight. The veteran point guard swiped two steals and added an assist in her 33 minutes.

Zeolla continues her march to 1,000 career points as the Yorktown Heights, NY native scored ten on the evening, adding seven rebounds, a steal, and a block in 27 minutes. She now stands at 872.

Essence Richardson joined Zeolla with seven boards and led John Jay on the night with four assists, a career-high for the Bronx, NY native.

Three Knights finished the contest in double-figures, led by Hanna Rhoades, who led all scorers with 23 on 7 of 15 shooting from the field, highlighted by 6 of 13 display from three-point range.
Delaney Bell and Taylor Koenig each had 11 points, with Bell pulling in a game-best 13 rebounds, 11 of those coming on the defensive end. Scarlett Glasser-Nehls added nine points and 12 rebounds.

Edwards and Lattimore powered the offense early for John Jay, as the two each had four points, while the defense limited the visitors to a 1 of 6 start from the field. The Knights staged a 14-5 run over the final 6:18 period, capped by Bell's three-pointer at the buzzer, as Arcadia regained the lead at 17-13.

Delaney Finn opened the second quarter for Arcadia with a three-pointer off the pass from Riley O'Hagan that made it 20-13 before Morgan Kimmi stopped the run with a put back layup. The Bloodhounds staged a comeback, as Hadja Bah netted a three-pointer off the feed from Natalie Simonds that started the run. John Jay, in all, scored eight of the following 11 points in a 3:35 span that cut the deficit to one, 24-23, after Lattimore made one of two from the line.

The Bloodhounds continued to climb back in the contest as Lattimore muscled in two, making it 29-27 in favor of Arcadia. The Knights closed out the frame on a 9-0 run, as Bell completed the traditional three-point play, extending the lead to 38-27 before Edwards banked home the running, left-handed jumper in the paint as John Jay trailed 38-29 at the break.

Arcadia continued to add to their total in the third quarter, utilizing a 16-6 run over a 6:15 span to build a 54-35 advantage, capped by Rhoades three-pointer.
