Men's Volleyball Blanks Yeshiva in Non-Conference Action

New York, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team (7-2, 2-0 CUNYAC) scored its seventh win of the season on Thursday night, defeating the Yeshiva University Maccabees (0-8, 0-0 Skyline), 3-0.

Outside hitter Logan Ramos logged nine kills in the three-set win, his fourth match this season with as many successful attacks.

The Bloodhounds took command of the match from the first serve, scoring the inital six points of the set. Newcomer Jaden Lamarre scored a pair of blocks in the 6-0 swing, with Akashdeep Singh and Logan Ramos scoring kills.

Jeferson Avila-Macancela dropped a pair of serves over the net for back-to-back service aces, giving the home team a 13-4 advantage.

Yeshiva reached into double-digit scoring in the final points of the opener as a kill by Avila-Macancela clinched a first set victory, 25-11.

Alex Bridgelall continued to excel from behind the service line against Yeshiva, as he has for much of the season, scoring two of his five aces early in the second set to give John Jay a 6-2 advantage. Thursday's performance is his fourth match this season with at least five aces and Bridgelall currently leads CUNYAC with a 1.76 aces/set average.

Singh was a main driver of the offense in the second set with four kills, giving the Bloodhounds a late 23-13 advantage with his final succesful swing of the second set. Kyle Barriffe-Johnson capped the set win with a kill for the 25-16 lead.

Yeshiva jumped out to its largest lead of the match to start the third against a new-look Bloodhounds line. The Maccabees capitalized on six errors by the home team to take a 10-3 lead in the third set. Ramos returned to the floor to help balance out the attack and immediately recorded a kill and an ace to cut the deficit to 10-7.

John Jay rattled off four straight points to force a Yeshiva timeout and tie the game at 11-all. Both teams traded points before Ramos gave the Bloodhounds their first lead of the third set, 15-13.

The home team held Yeshiva to just six points down the stretch, taking the third set by a 25-22 advantage.

Ramos finished the three-set win with his highest single-match hitting percentage this season, hitting .615 with nine kills on 13 attempts.

NEXT UP: The Bloodhounds homestand at The Doghouse continues on Saturday, Feb. 24 as John Jay welcomes Mount Saint Vincent (11:00 a.m.) and Division II Dominican University (1:00 p.m.) for a non-conference doubleheader.
