Myrtle Beach, SC - The John Jay baseball held a 4-1 heading into the top of the eighth before the Eastern University Eagles scored once in the top of the frame and staged a seven-run outburst in the ninth to defeat the Bloodhounds, 9-4, on Thursday morning from Griffith Field.

David Michalski (1-1) took the loss in relief, facing 11 batters (six in the ninth), while giving up six runs on four hits while recording a strikeout. Alvy Grullon came on for Michalski, allowing a run on a hit with two walks and a strikeout.

Eastern (4-2) got two hits from Robert Del Buono, one of which coming in the ninth to tie the game at 4-4. Justin DiCesare led the way with three RBIs while Jason Hall added two RBIs as well.

The Bloodhounds got to starter Kasey Baumgart, as he allowed two runs on four hirs while walking three and striking out two over his three innings of work.

Joseph Juliano came on in relief, firing off three shutout frames in which he gave up just four hits and recorded three strikeouts. Logan Culp got the win, pitching a scoreless bottom of the ninth to retire John Jay in order.

The Eagles struck first to start the game. Trent MacDougall led off the contest with a walk and a steal before being lifted for a pinch-runner in Brian Lang. With one out, Eastern completed a successful double steal with Lang moving to third and Evan Barks going to second.

Down in the count, DiCesare grounded out to Tackett at short that brought in Lang for the game's first run.

John Jay wasted little time in responding in their half of the first. Axel Kappes walked before moving up on a single by Bowman. Spallin followed with the Bloodhounds second straight hit, a single to left center that loaded the bases.

With one out in the frame, Mauro sent a deep drive to right field that was snagged by the right fielder as Kappes tagged up and crossed the plate, knotting the game at 1-1.

The next batter, Tackett, singled through the left side that brought in Bowman, giving the Bloodhounds a 2-1 advantage.

The game remained that way as Jost kept the Eagles from scoring position until the seventh, when an errant pitch hit Griffin Falco and moved the pinch-runner, Thomas Kozlusky, to second. Jost rebounded and struck out Connor Schilling to end the threat.

John Jay extended their lead in the bottom of the seventh, going ahead 4-1. Gangwish reached on an infield single to short before advancing to third on a pair of wild pitches from Brennan Moloughney.

Kappes drew a second full count walk to give the home team runners on the corner with no outs. With one out in the inning, Spallin hit a hot shot that the Eastern shortstop couldn't snag as Kappes and Gangwish both scored, giving John Jay a three-run cushion.

Eastern cut the deficit in half in the top of the eighth. Logan Klember pinch-hit for Lang and led off the stanza with a single to right field. Del Buono doubled to right, putting an end to Jost's day on the mound.

Michalski came on in relief of Jost and struck out the first batter he faced in Barks. He then got DiCesare to pop out to Anthony Agosta over at second base for the second out.

Ryan Turzani came on as a pinch-hitter for David Hunsberger and got plunked by a pitch to load the bases. The next batter, Thomas Kozlusky, was also hit, as that brought in Klember to make it 4-2 in favor of the Bloodhounds.

With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, John Jay had a chance to add more to their total as Gangwish and Kappes each had back-to-back singles but were stranded as Bowman flew out ending the threat.

In the ninth, the Eagles tallied seven runs on five hits in taking the lead. Falco started things off with a single to left field. Schilling reached on an infield single to third.

The bases were loaded for Del Buono, who singled to right field that brought in both Schilling and Adams, tying the game at 4-4.

Following Barks reaching on sacrifice fielder's choice bunt to third that loaded the bases, DiCesare double to right field, scoring Del Buono and Friend, making it 6-4 and closing out Michalski's day.

Grullon came on and walked the first batter he saw before Kozlusky brought in Barks on a sacrifice fly to center, increasing the lead to 7-4.

With one out, Jason Hall brought in a pair with an infield single to short that made it 9-4 in favor of the Eagles.

Logan Culp came on and pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth with Spallin grounding out to third, Santo Anzalone flying out to left and Mauro grounding out the end the game.
