Men's Tennis Earns First CUNYAC Win Of 2024; Defeats Lehman On Friday Afternoon

Bronx, NY - The John Jay men's tennis team recorded their first win of the season, defeating the Lehman College Lightning in CUNYAC play on Friday afternoon at the APEX Tennis Center. 
 
The Bloodhounds move to 1-3 and 1-0 in conference play while the Lightning fall to 0-1 as Friday was their season opener. 
 

 
Friday's results marked the first win for head coach David Muchnick as head coach of the men's tennis program. 
 

 
 John Jay took all three doubles points. At No. 1, the pairing of Nikita Sadounichy and Deondre McKenzie defeated Christian Agudo and Richie Magaribi, 8-2. 
 
Samir Ghimire and AJ Esperanza bested the duo of Jimmy Evans and Juan Rodriguez, 8-3. 
 
At No. 3 doubles, Massimo Leandri and Nathaniel Barnaby outdueled Jayden Youngs and Chris Rameriz, 8-7 (8-6). 
 
Sadounichy earned his fourth straight singles victory at No. 1, defeating Agundo in straight sets. 
 
Lehman got on the board at No. 2 singles with Magaribi getting by McKenzie, 6-4; 6-2. 
 
Ghimire posted a 6-1; 6-0 triumph over Evans at No. 3 singles while Esperanza matched Sadounichy with a straight- set triumph over Young at No. 4 for his first collegiate singles win. 
 
Leandri withstood a late charge from Rameriz at No. 5 singles, picking up the seventh win of the day for the Bloodhounds, 6-4; 6-3. 
 
Shariff Keita earned the final win of the afternoon, defeating Barnaby, 6-2; 6-3 at No. 6 singles. 
 
The Bloodhounds will be back in action on Tuesday, April 2 as they will travel to Mahwah, NJ to tangle with the Ramapo Roadrunners at 4:00 p.m.
