Baseball Concludes Five-Game Ripken Experience With 15-10 Triumph Over Rivier On Monday Morning

Myrtle Beach, SC - The John Jay College baseball closed out their five-game Ripken Experience Spring Trip in Myrtle Beach, SC on Monday morning, earning a 15-10 triumph over the Rivier University Raiders. 
 
Six of the nine John Jay (2-5) batters had a multi-hit game on the final day of the spring trip for the Bloodhounds. 
 
Quentin Bowman continued his torrid hitting, going 2 for 4 with three runs scored while driving in a season-high five RBIs, which included his second home run of the year and upped his RBI total to a team-best 11.
 
John Spallin, Santo Anzalone, and Anthony Agosta each had two RBIs apiece with Spallin matching Bowman with three runs scored and also leading the team with three hits on the day. 
 
Axel Kappes III, Anzalone, Hayden Tackett, and Jaxen Gangwish all had two hits on the day.
 
Michael Mauro (1-2) was dominate on the mound, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while walking one and recording six strikeouts in posting his first win of the season. Sean Jost preserved the win to earn his first save of the season. 
 
Four Raiders (2-1) also had multi-hit performances , led by Alex Gallicano, who finished 3 for 5 with two runs scored. 
 
Kyle Hsu had two hits in four chances while leading Rivier with three RBIs. JD Normand and Owen Medlock each had two hits with Medlock adding an RBI to his ledger.
 
Nate Bonacorsi (0-1) lasted just 1.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits while walking two, striking out two and threw three wild pitches in taking the loss. 
 
John Jay opened the contest scoring four runs on five hits in taking the early lead. Bowman led off with a double and moved to third on a single through the right side from Kappes III. A wild pitch from Bonacorsi brought in the first run for the Bloodhounds. 
 
Spallin continued the hitting chain with a single through the left side, giving John Jay runners on the corners with no outs. 
 
Anzalone muscled a single to right center, bringing in Kappes III for the second run of the inning. A second wild pitch of the inning moved Anzalone to third and plated home Spallin for the third run before Agosta's first-pitch hard-hit single to left netted the fourth run of the ballgame. 
 
Mauro needed just 11 pitches in the first inning, striking out Aliberti and inducing back-to-back ground outs. 
 
John Jay added two more runs in their half of the fourth, increasing their advantage to 6-0. Jaxen Gangwish worked a leadoff walk before stealing second and advancing to third on a balk. Bowman lofted a deep fly to center that Gangwish tagged up on and scored the fifth run of the day. 
 
Spallin sent a two-out single to left center and came around to score on a Anzalone RBI single to left, as he moved to second on the throw. 
 
Mauro kept the Raiders without a hit through the first four innings and escaped potential trouble after hitting the first two batters but battled back, getting Ben O'Connell to ground to Gangwish at third, as the first-year Bloodhound stepped on the bag at third and fired over to Anzalone to end the threat. 
 
John Jay added one in the top of the fifth on Bowman's second RBI of the day, as he sent a sacrifice fly to left field, as Tackett came in from third. 
 
Rivier got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Medlock sent a two-out single to left that scored Luis Colon, who reached on a one-out fielding error by Gangwish at third, making it 7-1. 
 
The Raiders continued to chip away at the lead, as in the bottom of the sixth, Frank Gulezian scored on a wild pitch from Mauro that made it 7-2 in favor of the Bloodhounds. 
 
Isaac Salazar reached on a two-out single to left field in the top of the seventh. Gangwish followed up with a single to center before Bowman unleashed a towering, three-run round tripper over the right-center wall, as John Jay extended the lead to 10-2.
 
Rivier staged a four-run bottom of the seventh off reliever David Michalski, as Gallicano scored on a fielding error by Gangwish. Aliberti advanced to third on a balk called, allowing Medlock, who singled through the right side, to score. 
 
Hsu sent an RBI single to right field that made it 10-5 before O'Connell ended the scoring for the Raiders with a sacrifice fly to right field that brought in Hsu, as the lead shrank to 10-6. 
 
Hsu continued his big day at the plate in the bottom of the eighth, bringing the Raiders to within two on a two-run double to left center as John Jay led 10-8. 
 
In the top of the ninth, Bowman reached on a throwing error by the shortstop. A walk to Kappes III ended Patrick Young's day. Erik Whitehead came on in relief.
 
Both Bloodhound runners moved up a base on the wild pitch before Spallin singled and moved to second on the throw as John Jay increased their lead to 12-8. 
 
Two straight wild pitches from Whitehead brought the lead up to 14-8 before Agosta flew out to right, as Mauro tagged up and plated across the 15th run of the contest for John Jay. 
 
Jost got the first two batters out before Luis Tejada reached on a fielding error by the Bloodhounds' third baseman. The next batter, Luis Colon, belted a no-doubter over the right field wall, as the Bloodhounds held a 15-10 edge.
 
Jost regained his composure on the mound, getting Medlock swinging at strike three as John Jay put a close to their week in The Palmetto State. 
 
The Bloodhounds are scheduled to host Maritime on Wednesday, March 6, at Maimonides Park with first-pitch slated at 4:30 p.m.
