Softball Extends Winning Streak To 13 Following Sweep At St. Joseph's University - Long Island; Santiago And Sandel Reach Milestones

Patchogue, NY - The John Jay softball team rallied back from a 3-2 deficit with three runs in the fifth before adding seven scores in the seventh in taking game one against St. Joseph's University - Long Island, 12-3. 
 
In game two, the Bloodhounds struck for four runs in their half of the first before adding three combined runs over the third and fourth in securing an 8-3 win over the Golden Eagles. 
 

 
With the wins, the Bloodhounds move to 14-4 overall while the Golden Eagles falter to 5-11. 
 
John Jay has now recorded 13 straight victories, which is currently the tenth-longest in all of Division III.

Jailene Santiago led the way with four hits in game one and in the process, recorded her 100th career hit and now has 101 hits as a member of the Bloodhounds. 
 
Rylea Sandel notched two hits and led the club with three RBIs as she reached 150 career hits. Sidney Bankston and Jordyn Prince also added two hits in the contest. 
 
Angelina Schoelles had a hit and drove in two RBIs
 
Lindsay Ogden (6-0) notched her fifth complete game of the season, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits while walking one and striking out five batters. 
 
Antonia Busa, Mariah Salvatto, and Samantha Lugo each had a hit in the contest with Salvatto and Kimberly Ehman each drove in an RBI. 
 
Caitlyn Herzing (2-6) surrendered five runs on seven while squandering six walks and posting a strikeout in taking the loss. 
 
The two teams exchanged zeroes over the first two frames before the Bloodhounds scored first. 
 
Prince led off with a single through the left side before moving into scoring position on a wild pitch. Elika Rodrigues walked on eight pitches before Bankston reached on an error.
 
Sandel reached the illustrious 150 career hit club with a single back up the middle, scoring both Rodrigues and Prince to make it 2-0. 
 
The Golden Eagles took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth with three runs scored. 
 
John Jay recaptured the lead, scoring three in the top of the fifth seven in the final frames to take game one.

The Bloodhounds erupted for four early runs in the first inning in defeating the Golden Eagles by an 8-3 count. 
 
Sandel continued her torrid hitting, going 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Rodrigues, Santiago, and Prince each had two hits. 
 
Santiago recorded her 19th career complete, seventh of the season, striking out nine and walking two after surrounding nine hits. 
 
The Bloodhounds batted around in the first inning, sending 11 batters up and scored their final run on a Ciaran Iglesias sacrifice fly to right. 
 
The Golden Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the frame with RBI single from Busa to center. 
 
The game remained that way until the third inning when Rodrigues singled in Alyssa Cadolino for the fifth run of the game. 
 
John Jay continued to add to its lead scoring twice in the fourth, extending the advantage to 7-1. 
 
Sandel capped her evening with an RBI single to right in the seventh as John Jay moved ahead 8-2 prior to Busa producing another RBI in the bottom of the inning. 
 
The Bloodhounds will head to Jersey City, NJ to tangle with the NJCU Gothic Knights. 
 
First-pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
