Softball Picks Up Two Road Wins At Purchase On Wednesday

Purchase, NY - The John Jay softball team procured two road victories on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Purchase College Panthers, 11-0 and 9-0 in five innings. 

With the wins, the Bloodhounds move to 19-7 overall while the Panthers fall to 8-9 on the season. 

Game 1 - John Jay 11, Purchase 0
Following a scoreless first inning, the visiting Bloodhounds sparked a four-run top of the second and continued their offensive output, scoring seven runs over the final three innings to post an 11-0 triumph. 

Jailene Santiago recorded three hits while driving in three RBIs to pace the Bloodhounds' offense. Rylea Sandel, Alyssa Cadolino, and Jordyn Prince each collected two hits. Elika Rodrigues, Sandel, and Cadolino each had two RBIs in the contest. 

Lindsay Ogden (8-2) tossed her ninth complete game of the season, allowing one hit while walking three and striking out six batters in five innings. 

Jade D'Errico had the lone hit off Ogden. Abigail Lipkin (1-4) took the loss after allowing eight runs on 11 hits while walking one batter. 

The Bloodhounds started the second inning with three straight hits coming from Santiago, Sidney Bankston, and Angelina Schoelles

The next batter,e Cadolino, doubled to center field, scoring both Santiago and Bankston in giving the John Jay a 2-0. 

Rodrigues reached on an RBI bunt single that brought in Cadolino from third to make it 4-0. 

Santiago commenced the top of the third with a solo home run, her 14th of the season as the Bloodhounds led 5-0. 

In the top of the fourth, Prince reached on an infield single to shortstop before moving to second on the sacrifice bunt by Rodrigues. 

A walk to Gallpasy followed by a single to Sandel loaded the bases for Santiago. The Albany, NY native doubled through the right side for her third RBI of the contest as the Bloodhounds led 6-0. Bankston added an RBI sacrifice bunt that made it 7-0. 

John Jay tacked on three more runs in their half of the fifthCadolino was hit by a pitch. Julie-Ann Cartagena pinch-hit for Fajardo and reached first on an infield single to short. 

Prince stepped in and singled to center to load the bases for Rodrigues. The leadoff hitter, Rodrigues, flew out to right field, scoring Cadolino to make it 9-0. 

Sandel doubled to centerfield, scoring both Prince and Cartagena to make it 11-0. 

Ogden came on for the fifth and struck out Melissa Harper. Maria Konieczny 
flew out to right field for the second out. Devynn Hernandez walked. 

D'Errico beat out an infield bunt to break up the no-hit bid. Ogden got Allison Cammarata to fly out to center for the win. 

Game 2 - John Jay 9, Purchase 0
The Bloodhounds continued their offensive prowess in game two scoring first before erupting on a five-run third inning and capping the scoring with three runs in the fourth as John Jay posted their second straight shutout, 9-0. 

Ciaran Iglesias (3-2) recorded her third victory of the year, allowing just two hits with two strikeouts in the five innings of work. 

Samantha Christopher and Konieczny had the lone hits for the Panthers. 

Olivia Goff (4-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs on four hits while walking four and striking out five batters. 

The Bloodhounds got on the board in the first inning. Rodrigues walked and promptly stole second. A one-out walk to Sandel followed by Santiago reaching on a fielding error by the second baseman loaded the bases for Bankston. 

Bankston lofted a deep fly to centerfield as Rodrigues tagged up from third and scored. 

Both teams went scoreless in the second before the Bloodhounds opened the game up with a five-spot in the top of the third. 

Gallaspy doubled to start the inning. A walk to Sandel followed by a passed ball moved the runners into scoring position. 

Santiago stepped into the box and uncorked her team-leading 14th home run of the season, a three-run shot as the visitors led 4-0. Bankston walked before Schoelles lined out to Goff for the first out of the inning. 

Cadolino connected on her first career home run, a two-run shot that plated Bankston to make it 6-0. 

Gallaspy doubled to center field to start the inning. Sandel added a double through the left side that scored Gallaspy to make it 7-0. Santiago posted the third straight double in the inning, as Sandel scored to make it 8-0. 

Cadolino continued her hot hitting with an RBI single to right, scoring Zoe Lowe, who pinch-ran for Santiago, which extended the lead to 9-0. 

The Bloodhounds continue their road trip on Thursday, as they will square off against Farmingdale State at 4:00 p.m.
