Jamaica, NY - The John Jay men's tennis team closed out the regular season on Friday afternoon with a pair of matches, hosted at the York College Tennis Courts in Queens.
The Bloodhounds scored a sweep over the host York Cardinals, before holding its senior day ceremony for
Massimo Leandri, and closing out the regular season against Albert Magnus College.
Match One: John Jay 9 - York 0
The Bloodhounds made quick work of York in doubles play.
Top doubles pairing
Samir Ghimire and
Nikita Sadounichy topped York's Altenor Molien and Abubakar Khamis, 8-1. On the next court over, the Bloodhounds' second pair,
Deondre Mckenzie and
AJ Esperanza, blanked the Cardinals' Stanley Itua and Firdaus Abdulai, 8-0.
John Jay's third doubles team,
Massimo Leandri and
Nathaniel Barnaby, were given the win after Bisola Babanumi and Emperatriz Cesar retired for York.
Into singles play, it was an efficient outing for Sadounichy. The newcomer scored a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Molien in the first singles slot.
Esperanza played in the second singles match, scoring a win over York's Khamis, 6-1, 6-2.
Ghimire earned another singles sweep for the Bloodhounds in the third spot, defeating Abdulai, 6-0, 6-0.
After a 6-0 first set win by Mckenzie, the Bloodhounds earned another point in the fourth singles battle after Itua retired in the second set.
Leandri dropped just one game against Cesar as the Bloodhounds were winners in the fifth singles match.
Barnaby closed it out for the visitors with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the sixth singles face-off against York's Babanumi.
The Bloodhounds finish the CUNYAC regular season schedule with a 2-3 record, sitting at fourth place in the conference standings as of Apr. 26.
Game Two: Albertus Magnus 7 - John Jay 2
The Bloodhounds closed out the day, and the regular season, with their first meeting with Albertus Magnus since 2018.
Ghimire and Sadounichy finished the regular season with a person record as a pair, logging an 8-0 win in first doubles play over Albertus Magnus's Diego Martinez Jimenez and Rockenson Charles.
Leandri and Barnady took one game as the third doubles pair, but dropped the battle, 8-1, to the Falcons' Tim Manning and Zane Kindrachuk.
Esperanza and Mckenzie were up for the deciding point in doubles play, winning four games but dropping the second doubles point to Eric Chamandy and Caden Pattison, 4-8.
The Falcons led 2-1 after doubles play. John Jay was first on the board in singles action, as Sadounichy earned the first singles point with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Martinez Jiminez.
Albertus Magnus regained the lead by winning the sixth singles point, as Gustav Müller downed Barnaby, 6-1, 6-0.
The Falcon lead was extended when their fifth singles player, Pattison, knocked off Leandri, 6-0, 6-2.
The visitors from Connecticut were on top the rest of the way. Chamandy took the third singles point, 6-0, 6-3, from Ghimire. Charles was victorious over Esperanza, 6-1, 3-2, in the second doubles match. Fourth singles competitior, Jarrell Pettway, salted away the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Mckenzie.
