Softball Sweeps York On Friday Afternoon As Jailene Santiago And Lindsay Ogden Pitch Spin Gems

Union, NJ - The John Jay softball team swept Friday's doubleheader as the Bloodhounds defeated the York College Cardinals, 12-2 in game one and 8-0 in game two. 
 
John Jay moves to 23-11 overall and 7-1 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play. York falls to 4-16 and remains winless in league play at 0-8. 
 
Game 1 - John Jay 12, York 2 (5 innings)
The Bloodhounds erupted for five runs on just one hit in the first inning and continued their offensive output by adding seven more scores over the final four innings as John Jay posted a 12-2 run-rule victory over the Cardinals in game one. 
 
Rylea Sandel led the way for the Bloodhounds with three hits and drove in four RBIs. Sidney Bankston tallied two RBIs and two hits. Jailene Santiago, Angelina Schoelles, Kayla Sauers, and Jordyn Prince also added an RBI. 
 
Santiago earned her tenth win of the season and 33rd of her Bloodhound tenure. The Albany, NY native posted her 24th complete game, as she finished the contest allowing two unearned runs on four hits while walking three and striking out 11 batters.
 
Sofia Soric led York with two hits. Michelle Mancuso and Faith Howes each had a hit in the contest. 
 
Elika Rodrigues and Gallaspy were hit by errant pitches to start.  Rodrigues scored on a wild pitch for the game's first run. Sandel singled down the right field line that plated Gallaspy for the second run of the game. 
 
Schoelles reached on a fielder's choice as Sandel scored. A second wild pitch in the frame plated Bankston and made it 4-0 before Prince drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Schoelles to cap the five-run inning. 
 
York got on the board in the top of the second. Howes singled to center before moving to second and promptly stole third. She came into score on a throwing error by Gallaspy behind the plate. 
 
John Jay added two more scores in the bottom of the second. A Sandel single and a walk to Santiago gave the Bloodhounds a pair of runners. 
 
Bankston singled to left field that scored Sandel as the Bloodhounds took a 6-1 lead. Sauers reached on a hard-hit single to second base that plated Santiago as the home team extended their lead, 7-1. 
 
In the bottom of the third, Rodrigues led off the frame with a triple to right center. Gallaspy drew a walk before Sandel lofted a sacrifice fly to right that upped the lead to 8-1. 
The next batter, Santiago, doubled to right, that scored Gallaspy, making it 9-1. Bankston continued her hot hitting, doubling to left and scoring Santiago as John Jay's lead swelled to 10-1. 
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Sandel produced a two-run double to left as the advantage moved to 12-1 in favor of John Jay. 
 
The Cardinals scored the final run of the game as Remedios Garcia reached on a fielding error by the Bloodhounds' second baseman but Mancuso was out at second as Schoelles fired a strike to Sandel but Lisseny Florentio scored before the final out was made. 

Game 2 - John Jay 8, York 0 (5 innings)
Freshman starter Lindsay Ogden was dominant inside the circle while the Bloodhound bat remained consistent as John Jay completed the sweep of York, defeating the visitors 8-0. 
 
Ogden earned her tenth win of the season, spinning a complete game, one-hitter as she didn't issue a walk while striking out 11 batters. 
 
Gallaspy and Kelly Fajardo each had two hits with Gallaspy driving in three RBIs. Rodrigues, Sandel, Fajardo, and Ciaran Iglesias all had an RBI in game two. 
 
Mancuso had the lone hit for the Cardinals. 
 
John Jay got on the board first as Gallaspy, who doubled, came into score on a wild pitch. 
Ogden was in complete control, striking out seven straight batters before a grounder to third ended that streak in the top of the fourth. 
 
The Bloodhounds staged a six-run fourth in taking a 7-0 lead. Iglesias singled up the middle that scored pinch-runner Brianna Cornejo.
 
A bases-loaded walk to Rodrigues scored Fajardo as John Jay led 3-0. Gallaspy cleared the bases with a double to left field as the home team took a 6-0 lead. Sandel added an RBI single to left that scored Gallaspy, making it 7-0. 
 
The Bloodhounds closed the game in the bottom of the fifth. Bankston started the frame with a double down the left-field line. Schoelles flew out to center as Bankston moved to third. The next batter, Fajardo, ripped a single down the left field line as the Bloodhounds earned the run-rule victory. 
 
John Jay will head to Baltimore, MD on Sunday, April 28, as they will square off against Notre Dame of Maryland University. 
 
First-pitch is set for 11:30 a.m.
