Game 1 | John Jay 6, Baruch 3
The Bloodhounds found themselves trailing by two before tying the game in their half of the second and tacking on three runs in the bottom of the third as John Jay got past Baruch, 6-3, in the opener.
Maleea Gallaspy went 3 for 3 with two runs scored to pace the Bloodhounds' offense.
Rylea Sandel and
Jailene Santiago each drove in two RBIs, connecting on back-to-back home runs in the third inning.
Alyssa Cadolino recorded her first college RBI in the opener.
Santiago secured her 17th complete game and fifth this season, as she earned her fifth win of the season. The Albany, NY native allowed three runs on five hits while walking two and striking out three.
Milagros Arias had two of Baruch's five hits while driving in one of the team's RBIs. Kaitlyn Belfield drove in the other RBI for the visitors. Julia Cuttone, Mia Faddadh, and Leilani Jimenez added a hit for the Bearcats.
Carly Quint (3-5) took the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits while striking out two batters.
Cuttone delivered a one-out double to right field before Quint walked.
Jimenez reached on a base hit up the middle to load the bases for Arias, who delivered an RBI single through the left side, giving Baruch a 1-0 lead.
A wild pitch brought in Quint for a 2-0 advantage as both Jimenez and Arias moved into scoring position. A walk to Bridget Campanelli loaded the bases but Belfield flew out to left, ending the threat.
The Bloodhounds cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first.
Elika Rodrigues led off the contest with a double down the left field line before Gallaspy singled to left field and moved to second on the throw.
John Jay knotted the score at 2-2 in their half of the second.
Angelina Schoelles reached on a throwing error before moving to third. On a 2-2 pitch, Cadolino doubled down the right field line, scoring Schoelles to even the score.
The Bloodhounds tacked on three runs in the bottom of the third in building a 5-2 lead. Gallaspy started the frame with a double to right center.
The next batter, Sandel, connected on her second home run of the season, a two-run shot that cleared the center field wall.
Santiago followed suit with a solo home run, making it 5-2, as she clubbed her tenth home run of the season, and 19th of her Bloodhound tenure.
Baruch climbed back as Belfield sent a hard-hit grounder to
Ciaran Iglesias at third that plated Aria as the Bearcats trailed, 5-3.
John Jay tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth, as Santiago lofted a deep fly to right, scoring Gallaspy, who reached on her second double of the game.
Santiago allowed a leadoff single to Mia Faddah in the sixth but regained her composure, retiring the final six batters she faced for her fifth victory of the season.
Game 2 | John Jay 7, Baruch 3
The Bloodhounds and Bearcats were tied at 2-2 until John Jay staged a five-run second inning to record a sweep of the doubleheader, defeating Baruch, 7-3, in the nightcap.
Gallaspy, Santiago, and
Sidney Bankston each recorded two hits with Gallaspy and Santiago driving in two of the seven RBIs. Rodrigues, Sandel, and Cadolino each added an RBI while Gallaspy and Sandel scored twice.
Lindsay Ogden (5-0) recorded her fourth complete game of the season, allowing three runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out three.
Julia Cuttone and Faddah each had two hits with Faddah driving in two of the three RBIs for the visitors.
Caroline Gallagher (3-5) took the loss after giving up seven runs on seven hits in just two innings of work. Quint came on in relief, tossing four shutout innings, giving up just three hits, and posting two strikeouts.
Baruch had two straight hits before Faddah doubled to left center field, bringing in both Cuttone and Bell for the first runs of the game.
In the bottom of the inning, Gallaspy reached on an infield single to second base before Sandel tripled down the right-field line to score Gallaspy. Santiago reached on a fielder's choice that brought in Sandel to even the game at 2-2.
Ogden induced three straight groundouts in the top of the second. In the bottom of the inning, the Bloodhounds sent up ten batters, scoring five runs on five hits in taking a 7-2 lead.
Bankston sent a one-out double to right center. Rodrigues singled to center field scored Bankston and moved
Jordyn Prince to second, making it 3-2.
The next batter, Gallaspy, ripped a double to right field, bringing in both Rodrigues and Prince to extend the lead to 5-2.
Following a walk to Sandel, Santiago singled to right field, scoring Gallaspy upping the lead to 6-2. The next batter, Cadolino, grounded out to third, scoring Sandel, that made it 7-2.
Arias delivered an RBI single to right that brought in Cuttone, cutting the Bloodhounds lead to 7-3. The next batter, Campanelli, ground out to short as Sandel applied the tag on Jimenez, ending the frame.
John Jay will look to extend their winning streak on Wednesday, April 10, as they travel to St. Joseph's University - Long Island for a 4:00 p.m. first-pitch.
