Women's Tennis Defeats Sarah Lawrence For First Win Under Moore

Bloodhounds pick up first home, overall win of 2024 and for head coach Michael Moore

Flushing, NY - The John Jay women's tennis team outlast the visiting Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons, 4-2, on Thursday evening from the USTA National Tennis Center. 

For the Bloodhounds, it marked the first win under new head coach Michael Moore.

John Jay secured the doubles point to earn the first point in the race to four overall wins. The pairing of Sarina Moi and Kayla Saintard edged Zoe Kovac and Josephine Jackson, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles.

Manuela Orrego and Rose Azzu defeated the duo of Kyra Johnsen and Caroline He, 6-2. Sarah Lawrence earned a 6-0 triumph at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, Moi picked up a 6-1; 6-1 triumph at No. 1. The Gryphons earned victories at No. 2 and No.3 as Saintard put forth a valiant effort before falling to Johnsen, 7-5, 6-4.

Orrego defeated He, 6-2, 6-1. The No. 5 singles match went unfinished between Raiz and Mariam Caraza as Anna Rosario bested Melody Diaz, 6-3; 6-4 to seal the win for the Bloodhounds

John Jay will open CUNYAC play on Tuesday, September 24 as they will host York College in Jamaica, NY on the Cardinals Tennis Courts.

First serve is set for 4:00 p.m.
