Women's Tennis Blanks York For First Conference Triumph Of 2024

Jamaica, NY - The John Jay women's tennis team earned their second straight win, as the Bloodhounds blanked the York College Cardinals, 9-0, in CUNYAC play on Tuesday evening.

With the victory, the Bloodhounds even their record to 2-2 on the season while moving to 1-1 in conference play. The Cardinals falter to 0-2.


"I am proud of
the effort our team produced this afternoon,"
commented head coach Michael Moore. "We were tested at points of the match, but proud of the efforts by our team."

The pairing of Sarina Moi and Rose Azzu earned an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles for the first point of the match. Kayla Saintard/Manuela Orrego outlasted the duo of Maryam Khan/Franeidy Mauricio, 8-4.


Anna Rosario/Mariam Caraza blanked the tandem of Seunga Jeong/Jerina Forbes, 8-0, at No. 3. 
The Bloodhounds followed up their strong performance at doubles with a clean sweep of the singles points. 

Moi earned her 21st career singles victory, earning a 6-0; 6-3 triumph at No. 1 singles. Orrego withstood a comeback from Dawa Bhote at No. 2, picking up a 6-1, 7-5 victory. Saintard secured a 6-1; 6-1 win at No. 3 before Azzu took a 6-0; 6-4 victory at No. 4.

Caraza and Rosario yielded just two points with Caraza notching a 6-0; 6-2 win at No. 5 while Rosario defeated Forbes in straight sets at No. 6 (6-0; 6-0).

The Bloodhounds will look to extend their win streak to three more when they welcome the WestConn Wolves to the USTA National Tennis Center on Wednesday.

First-serve is set for 6:45 p.m.
