Boucher's Two Goals Not Enough As Women's Soccer Drops Road Contest At Rutgers Camden On Saturday

Camden, NJ - The John Jay women's soccer team rallied to get the tying score before intermission before the Rutgers Camden Scarlet Raptors notched four second-half goals as the Bloodhounds dropped a 5-2 decision on Saturday afternoon.

This was just the third all-time meeting between the two schools (Rutgers Camden leads 3-0) as John Jay falls to 1-4-1 while the Scarlet Raptors move to 3-3-2 on the season.

The home tested John Jay freshman goalkeeper Gianna Duarte early and often as seven minutes in Jazmin Brown delivered a shot that bounced off the crossbar. A minute later, Gianna Patitucci fired a shot that Duarte was able to stop. In the 20', Ashlee Schlagenhaft tried to push across the first goal but Duarte came up with her second save.

Following an offside by the Bloodhounds, Rutgers Camden got on the board first. Brianne Reeves sent the ball toward the goal as Josie Jackson-Conner headed the ball past Duarte, giving Rutgers Camden a one-goal edge.

The Bloodhound had a chance in the 30's as Lucia Giangaspero booted a shot that found the waiting arms of Michaela Graham. Three minutes later, Jackson-Conner nearly had a second goal but Duarte thwarted the chance.

In the 36', Asia Horne's chance hit the post. On the ensuing corner from Reeves, Sandy Ritter located the ball but misfired on the chance right of the target.

With a little under a minute left to go before halftime, Boucher fired a chance that was turned aside by Graham. Emma Fisher raced to the corner and struck the ball into the box that Boucher outsoared the defense for her fifth goal of the season, knotting the match at 1-1.

When play resumed for the second half, John Jay nearly replicated their first goal as Fisher lined up for a corner and delivered it to Boucher, but, her chance sailed high over the goal.

Rutgers Camden netted the go-ahead marker in the 52' as Ava Stowell curled one in from twenty yards outside the box to the left side, beating Duarte, and giving the home team a 2-1 lead. The Scarlet Raptors upped their advantage by two goals as Horne hit a high shot after a diagonal pass from Hannah Crowley.

A minute later, Crowley was the benefactor of a pass from Horne as the Scarlet Raptors went up 4-1. In the 82', Jackson-Conner scored off the feed from Patitucci as Rutgers Camden extended the lead to 5-1.

Boucher recorded her third multi-goal scoring game of the season and fifth of her career. The Sayville, NY native finished the chance created by Mikayla Schoch as the former College of Saint Rose product notched her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Bloodhounds will continue their road trip on Thursday, September 26 as John Jay will tangle with the No. 18 ranked New York University Violets.

Kickoff from Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium on the campus of NJIT in Newark, NJ is slated for 7:00 p.m.
