Boucher's Two Goals Help Women's Soccer Tie New Jersey City University, 2-2, On Friday Afternoon

Jersey City, NJ - The John Jay women's soccer team held an early 1-0 advantage but the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights rallied for two goals in the second half, taking the lead.

With two minutes left in the contest, Olivia Boucher curled a low-lining shot that beat the goalie to tie the match as the Bloodhounds earned a 2-2 draw on Friday afternoon.

The Bloodhounds move to 1-0-1 on the season while NJCU moves to 1-0-3. This marks the second straight meeting these two teams have tied (0-0 in 2022).

John Jay was held to just five total shots on the day (three on goal) while NJCU rattled 13 shots (8 on target). Both teams had three corners.

NJCU nearly recorded the first goal two minutes into the contest when Amanda Papamanolis' shot hit off the crossbar.

In the 31', Ari Flores-Ortiz booted a shot that was turned aside by reigning CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, Gianna Duarte.

John Jay's first chance came a minute later, as Boucher's shot sailed high over the goal. She wouldn't be denied, as on the next offensive possession, Lucia Giangaspero sent a through ball that found Boucher, who was pushed one past the keeper, giving John Jay an early 1-0 lead.

For Boucher, it marked her third goal in a Bloodhound uniform.

Both teams continued to exchange possession until the 59' when Papamanolis delivered a chance but Duarte was there for the stop. A minute later, NJCU found the equalizer as Samantha Szymanski scored off the pass from Sarah Reyes to even the score at 1-1.

In the 72', the Gothic Knights seized a one-goal lead as Kim Brites pushed a chance past Duarte after getting the ball from Sophia Mannino and Gineth Martinez. NJCU nearly went up by two goals when Papamanolis found space but Duarte thwarted the scoring chance.

With ten minutes left in the contest, newcomer Anna Wehr fired off a chance that was turned aside by Mannino. Duarte once again came up big for the Bloodhounds, stopping a chance by Arianna Chavez in the 86' and a minute later, stopping a Martinez shot attempt.

John Jay strung together the right combination for the game-tying goal as Emma Fisher got past her defender on the right side and sent the ball that found Boucher, who curled around a defender before finding the back of the net, tying the match at 2-2.

This marked John Jay's first tie since September 21, 2022, when the Bloodhounds and Gothic Knights played to a 0-0 draw.

The Bloodhounds will gear up for their home opener on Wednesday, September 11 as they play host to Penn State Abington at Randall's Island - Field #70.

Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
